[6543] The 1880 census shows him in his parents' home as a farm laborer, age 17.
[16202] "The Pioneers of Massachusetts . . .," Charles Henry Pope (Baltimore: Gen. Pub. Co., 1998), p. 356 states Richard arrived at Salem, MA in 1641. This marriage and the children are unverified, and are listed as provided by a correspondent on internet, 10/95. They r. Salem, Wenham and Newbury, MA per Torrey's "New England Marriages Prior to 1700." Tradition says Richard is from Staffordshire, England; he was in Wenham, MA in 1648; the unverified Old World Tree entry in 2007 states he is son of Richard Pettingell, b. ca. 1596. In 1652 he came with wife to Newbury with several children.
