[6070] The Billings family settled Sedgewick (then Brookville), Maine in 1762. John Billings and wife Hannah Farrar resided in the vicinity of the present-day Oakland House, and their children played with Native Americans along the shores of the Eggemoggin Reach. Albert's daughter, Louise, resided on a part of the original grant to the Billings family (which included the area of Walkers Pond and part of Sargentville). Picture shows Albert Francis Billings & wife Mabel with daughters Dorothy and Louise. Albert also served as a cook on steam-powered vessels.

Reference: Dunklin, Ethel Hastings Scruggs, "Scruggs genealogy : with a brief history of the allied families Briscoe, Dial, Dunklin, Leake and Price" (New York: Laplante & Dunklin Print. Co., 1912), p. 25. LDS Ancestral File suggests his wife was Martha Drewry (probably Drury). Colonial Dames application National # 3331 proved a line for Mrs. Mary Lou (or Low) Weaver of Orlando, FL in 1957. Apparently Richard and Martha are the parents of Drury Scruggs, listed in rootsweb.com by Mark Wallace Morgan. "The Parish Register of Saint Peter's, New Kent County, VA from 1680 to 1787," published by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Virginia and reprinted by the Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore: 1966), p. 138, lists the baptism 8 April 1738 of "Mary, Daughter of Richard and Martha Scruggs, born Feb'ry 12" and p. 123 lists the baptism 12 Sept 1735 of "Jesse son of Richard and Martha Scruggs, born July 23" - p. 35 shows the baptism 25 May 1690 of "John son to Henry Scruggs" (probably a brother of Richard). Becky Bass Bonner & Josephine Lindsay Bass at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mysouthernfamily report: "Richard Scruggs was granted two hundred and thirty acres in Goochland County, Virginia, in 1755, which grant had been previously owned by Drury Scruggs, who failing to make the necessary improvements, forfeited same." - and lists these children:
Martha - b. 4 Apr 1718 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia
Richard Jr. - b. 10 Jan 1720 in New Kent County, Virginia
Drury - b. 1 Feb 1725 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia
Thomas - b. 30 Jul 1729 in New Kent County, Virginia
Jesse - b. 23 Jul 1736 in New Kent County, Virginia
Mary - b. 12 Feb 1738 in New Kent County, Virginia

[28346] A pdf file in jorandby.net/genealog presents much information on Gustav and his descendants, and offers: "The surname Slora comes from the Slora Mill (Slora Mølle) in the Blaker local parish in the Sørum commune of the Norwegian county Akershus. . . . Gustav's wife Anna and their children -- who all emigrated in 1882 and 1886 -- appear in the 1865 Norwegian census when they were living on the Slora Gard (farm). Note the word "Kværn" in the census table below. (Our English word "quern" is cognate; it denotes a primitive hand-driven stone mill. Strictly speaking, the bottom stationary stone is the quern while the mobile stone is the handstone. In Adams County, Wisconsin, Olea Jorandby, Rosanna (Jorandby) Slorahn's aunt, married Gunnerius Embretsen Bjørnebyqvern, which means that the farm his family came from in Solør in Norway had a mill on it, and they were the millers. In America they dropped the "qvern" and used the name Bjorneby.)" See http://www.sorum.kommune.no and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akershus.
