[3531] In 2007 http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/ENGLAND,%20AngloSaxon%20&%20Danish%20Kings.htm offers: "Eadmund (-970, bur Romsey Abbey). Simeon of Durham names 'Eadmuind and Egelrĉd' as the sons of King Eadgar and his wife 'the daughter of Ordgar duke of Devonshire'. Roger of Hoveden gives his parentage. According to William of Malmesbury, Edmund was King Edgar's son by his first marriage. Florence of Worcester says that he was the son of the king's second marriage. 'Edmundus clito legitimus prefati regis filius' subscribed a charter of King Edgar dated 966. The 'Anglo-Saxon Chronicle' records the death in 970 of 'Prince Edmund'."

George Hill returned 45 years after deserting her. George P. Hill is listed by historian Mark Honey as a master mariner and sea captain of Penobscot, and was master of the schooner "Albert" in 1861. [Hosea B. Wardwell noted in his diary: "June 29, 1898. Geo. P. Hill, a native of Penobscot, after an absence of about forty-five years has returned. Not to see his friends, for he has none, but in hopes to get something of his father's estate. But as his father's will was proved, allowed and the property divided according to law twenty years ago, his hope is vain. G.P.H. in the past forty five years has committed about every crime except murder." He notes further: "Mar. 1, 1905. Geo. P. Hill, aged between 80 and 90 years, terminated an ignoble life by hanging himself, and no one mourns."] The IGI file [IGI source call 0873738 IT5], "A true copy of the most ancient vital records of Deer Isle: births, marriages, marriage publishements, deaths abt. 1757-1833 vol. 1" by Noyes, Benjamin Lake, 1870-1945 (Main Author) and Noyes, Linnie Howard (Added Author)", lists "Emeline Olive Peterson Jones, b. 31 March 1821 in Deer Isle, Maine," daughter of Susan Jones.

Thomas was a famed Elizabethan-era poet and lawyer. He debated anti-Roman Catholic measures in the English Parliament and examined Roman Catholics under torture. He translated John Calvin's "Institutes" (1561), etc. Encyclopaedia Britannica (1956 Edition, 16:543) states that Thomas married Margery Cranmer, daughter of the Archbishop, before marrying Alice, daughter of the Archdeacon. This is confirmed by Jasper Ridley, "Thomas Cranmer," (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1962), p. 152. See also chart following p. 384 in A. F. Pollard, "Thomas Cranmer and the English Reformation" (New York: Putnam, 1906). Thomas was "of Sharpenhoe, Bedforshire" re: Pollard, loc. cit. His first wife, Margery ("Margaret") Cranmer, was fourth child of Thomas and his second wife, Margaret (a niece of Osiander; she married twice after Thomas' martyrdom), who died childless between 1563 and 1568 (per Ridley, loc. cit.). See "The American Genealogist," XVI:107f.
"Dictionary of National Biography": Thomas Norton 1532-1584 - Eldest son by the first wife of Thomas Norton, wealthy citizen who purchased from the Crown Sharpenhoe and died 10 March 1582/3. The first wife of Thomas the elder was Elizabeth Merry the daughter of Robert of Northall, the second wife was brought up in the house of Thomas More and is said to have practised necromancy, but became insane and drowned herself in 1582. The third wife, Elizabeth Marshall has been mistakenly listed as the wife of Thomas 1532-1584 was the widow of Ralph Ratcliffe of Hitchen Hertfordshire. The Norton family was closely connected with the Grocers Company. Thomas got his MA at Cambridge on 10th June 1570. It was said that he had a brother Lucas who was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1583. As a boy Thomas entered the service of the Protector Somerset and eagerly adopted his amanuensis' views on religious reform. He entered the Inner Temple in 1555 and soon after married Margery 3rd daughter of Thomas Cranmer. His wife's stepfather was Edward Whitchurch, the Calvinistic printer and Thomas lived under his roof for a time. He was called to the bar and his practice grew rapidly. On Lady Day 1562 he became standing counsel to the Stationers Company and on 18 June 1581 Solicitor to the Merchant Taylors Company. Norton's activity and legal ability soon recommended him to the Queen's ministers. In January 1581 Thomas became official censor of the Queen's Catholic subjects. He complained to Walsingham on 27 March 1582 about being known as the "Rackmaster General". Amongst those Thomas tortured were Alexander Briant, Thomas Myagh (an Irishman who had already been "loosened up"; by Skevington) Edmund Campion and Francis Throgmorton. But Thomas' concern over the church's lack of zeal lead to him being imprisoned in the Tower where he continued to press Walsingham to be harsher with the Catholics. Although freed his health had suffered and he died at his house at Sharpenhoe on 10 March 1583/4. He was buried at Streatley Church and the will he had written on his death bed was proved 15 April 1584. His executor was Thomas Cranmer, his wife's brother. Thomas Norton's second wife was Alice the daughter of Edmund Cranmer. She was always a bigoted Protestant and fell victim to religious mania. By 1582 she was hopelessly insane. At the time of her husband's death she was living at Cheshunt, Hertfordshire under the care of her eldest daughter Ann, the wife of Sir George Coppin. She never recovered her reason and was still at Cheshunt early in 1602. She was afterwards removed to Bethlehem Hospital. Their children were, Anne, Elizabeth who married Miles Raynesford, Henry, Robert and William.
