He was born in Brookline, Mar. 27, 1899, the son of William and Anna (Hauck) Grindle. A member of the Jehovah Witnesses, he worked as a missionary for the church for 28 years. Surviving, besides his wife, Mrs. Eva (Abel) Grindle of Hulls Cove, are six daughters, Mrs. Reginald (Dorothea) Dyer of Sanford, Mrs. Robert (Sylvia) Gillon of Rome, N.Y., Mrs. Robert (Jeanette) Hanscom of Hulls Cove, Mrs. Benjamin (Elinor) Colli of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. William (Georgia) Haller of Ventura, Calif, and Mrs. Vincent (Elaine) Puckett of Branford, one son, Peter of Temple; one step-daughter, Mrs. William (Allison) Fletcher Bar Harbor; one stepson, David Beal of Mt. Desert; one brother, Porter Grindle of Mt. Desert; five sisters, Mrs. Clara (Banfordan) of Aurora,Miss Ellen McKay and Miss Mary Grindle, both of Northeast Harbor; Mrs. Annie Jordan of Seal Harbor, Mrs. Louise Peters of Montville; and 35 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall, Bar Harbor. Burial will be Somes Sound Cemetery, Mt. Desert."

Ezra Bourne was a missionary among the Native Americans at Mashpee, although perhaps not ordained, and that he served as Judge and Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas of Banstable Co., MA, and that his son, Joseph Bourne (b. 10 May 1701 in Sandwich, MA, d. 1767), was ordained in the Native American church at Mashpee and served there 1729-1762.
