[23589] The "History of York, Maine," Charles E. Banks (1931), reports: John "came from Plymouth, England to Isle of Shoals about 1665; mariner in command of the ketch 'George and Samuel' of Piscataqua, with his wife and son; 'died some years' before 1675 aged 55." Fishermen from England had been using these islands off Kittery, ME for decades; the islands had 600 families when evacuated during the War for Independence. Could he or his son be the "John Penwill" baptised 20 Oct 1641 at Newton Ferrers, Devonshire?
