Mattern, 77, of 725 Chestnut St., Chestnut Tower, a retired mechanic, died today, at 7:15 a.m. in the Sunbury Community Hospital, where he had been admitted Wednesday. Mr. Mattern worked for Shroyer's Dress Factory, Shamokinfor 28 years; He retired in 1972. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sunbury. Born in Green Brier, June 10, 1901, he was a son of the late Daniel and Ida Geist Mattern. He was a former resident of Shamokin and lived in Sunbury for the past seven years. Surviving are his wife, the former Lulu Beaver, to whom he was married for 57 years; a daughter, Mrs. Violet Blackwelder of Greenville, N.C.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, J. Lloyd Mattern of Sunbury and Guy D. Mattern of Rebuck; and a sister, Mrs. Mildred Reed of Elizabethville." Named Willard Warren Mattern in the LDS Church's unverified IGI file.
