Their father is the first Baron Vavasour, William (summoned to Parliament 1299-1313)(William m. Nicola, dau. of Sir Stephen Wallis). William is son of Sir John le Vavasour (m. Alice, dau. of Sir Robert Cockfield, Kgt.); William was licensed by Edward I to build a castle at his manor house at Haslewood. John is son of Sir Robert le Vavasour who was Sheriff of Nottingham and Derbyshire under Henry III; his wife is Juliana, dau. of Gilbert de Ros of Steeton, Yorkshire.
