His grave marker labels him Acel Foster; he is also known as Asael (and perhaps as Asa). http://oxfordcounty.blogspot.com/2006/01/denmark-oxford-county-maine.html reports Asahel had 2000 acres reserved for him in Denmark, Oxford Co., ME (then in MA) in 1795 - " Asahel Foster's grant was conveyed June 8, 1795, and abutted Bridgton [Massachusetts Deeds, 5:61]." Also see "Sprague's Journal of Maine History, Vol. 2, No. 1," (Dover, ME: John Francis Sprague), p. 20, and "The Maine Historical Magazine, Vol. 9," (Bangor: Chas. H. Glass & Co., 1895), p. 50. Asahel Foster is on the tax list in Bridgton in 1781. "The Bridgton Town Register, 1905," Harry E. Mitchell, et al., comp. (Brunswick, Me., 1904), pp. 8-9, 12, list Asael Foster as an inhabitant of Bridgton in 1794. Asahel and Joanna were the first settlers in Sandy Creek, later moving to the Fosterville section of South Bridgton, Maine, where they lived on what was later the Frank Johnson place. The 1790 federal census in Bridgton lists four males over age 16 in Asahel's family, three males under 16 and four females. At one time Asahel was hog reeve in Bridgton. The Fosters are of English derivation and came to Massachusetts about 1640. They were intermarried with the Peabodys and Perleys previous to the coming of those families to America and while residents in Massachusetts; as well as since their settlement in Maine. Asael Foster came from Danvers in the year 1772, and first settled at a place in Bridgton, since known as "Hensborough," lot No. 4, range 19. He built the first frame house in Bridgton, and his wife was the first married woman that settled in that town. Mr. Foster died in Feb., 1820 "from the kick of a horse," aged 71 years, having had issue; eleven children. --[Hist. Harrison, Me.] "He d. Feb., 1820. Res., Bridgton and Harrison, Me."
The NSSAR Patriot list offers his service: "Revolutionary War Graves Register. Clovis H. Brakebill, compiler. 672pp. SAR. 1993. Also SAR Revolutionary War Graves Register CD. Progeny Publishing Co: Buffalo, NY. 1998. Circuit Co. History." Asahel is listed as a Revolutionary War solider buried in Bridgton, Maine in "Sprague's Journal of Maine History, Vol. 6, No. 2" (op. cit.), p. 71. ""Bridgton Maine-1768 - 1968," (the Bridgton Historical Society) offers: "Asael Foster was one of these earlier pioneers. In 1772 he settled first in Hensborough, so-called, - later Pinhook and now Sandy Creek. He and Enoch Perley compete in the records for the honor of building the first frame house in the area. He and his descendants were later to play an important part in South Bridgton's history. Asael Foster's wife was the first married woman to come to Bridgton; they had 11 children. As this is the only point at which Asael is mentioned, it is here the story of Asael and the Bear must be added: it is one of the more enduring, and endearing, legends of the area. On the night in question, Asael had gone over to Denmark to see his lady-love and on his return he ran across a bear. Enraged at the intrusion, the bear attacked Foster who promptly climbed a tree. The bear as promptly climbed up after him, high enough to nibble at his heels. Foster kicked at him until the bear fell to the ground. The victim thought his danger might then be over, but the bear scrambled up again and renewed his attack. Between the struggles of man and beast, the tree finally broke and both fell to the ground. Fortunately Foster landed on top and in a nimble burst of speed, he outdistanced the bear in flight. In his terror he forgot his injuries until he had to cross a field of rye stubble, which served as a cruel reminder. Both heels were badly mangled from the fracas, and Asael carried the scars to his grave. "Elizabethville Echo [Elizabethville, PA], 24 November 1910," p. 4: "Frank Klinger, a well-known and highly respected citizen of Gratz, was buried on Friday, Nov. 18, in the cemetery at Gratz. The services were held in Simeon's church. They were conducted by the Rev. E. J. Heilman, assisted by the Rev. C P. Wehr. The spacious church was almost filled.by relatives and friends of the deceased. The remains were in charge of Undertaker John H. Miller. Mr. Klinger was born on Jan. 23, 1851. On May 25, 1851, he was baptized by the Rev. August Bergner. He married Harriet A. Troutman, to which union there weie born six sons and six daughters. He suffered a stroke of paralysis on Nov. 7, and, after lingering over a week, he died on Nov. 15, bringing his age to 59 yrs., 9 mos. and 22 days. He is survived by his wife, twelve children, fifty grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Six grandchildren preceded him in death. He will be missed, not only by his family, but also by the community in which he lived, where bore an honored name."

Sveyn I 'Forkbeard' Haraldsson, King of Denmark and England. http://www.guide2womenleaders.com/womeninpower/Womeninpower03.htm states "Dowager Queen Gunhild of Poland of Sweden - It is not known for certain that she was actually the wife of King Erik, who might have been married to Sigrid Storråda, but she might have acted as regent for son, king Olof Skötkonung. Since 996 she was possibly married to Svend Forkbeard king of Denmark and political active until their divorce in 1000. In 996 she lead to an alliance between Denmark and Sweden. Daughter of prince of Poland Mieszko I and Dobrawa, she was origianally named Princess Sygryda, mother of several children with both husbands, and lived (968/72-after 1014)." http://www.geocities.com/missourimule_2000/kingsofdenmark2.html reports: "Her Polish name was Sygryda Swietoslawa; we have used the Norse variation since it is the one most likely to be encountered. She is also believed to be the same person as Gunhilda, who is often listed as the wife of Sven I 'Forkbeard'. Also, her father is sometimes listed as Skoglar Toste, or the mythical 'Burislav'. Burislav is considered to be a combination of Miezko I and Boleslaw of Poland. After she divorced from Erik, she was given Gotaland as a fife. Olaf Trygvasson proposed to her, but demanded that she convert to Christianity. This proposal insulted her, and she began to actively orchestrate Olaf's downfall by allying Sweden and Denmark against Norway. She was successful when Olaf fell in the Battle of Swold in 1000. She also had Harald Grenske burned to death to discourage other petty kings from proposing to her, thus earning the nickname 'haughty'."
