John was born in that part of Concord which became Lincoln and where his father John died intestate leaving an estate over more than 4000 pounds. John was of Deer Isle, ME when he signed the estate administration of his mother Elizabeth on 20 August 1763. See Philip Howard Gray, "Penobscot Pioneers" (Camden: Penobscot Press, 1993), pp. 1-2. Historian Mark E. Honey ("Castine Patriot, 8 July 2004, p. 5) reports "John Billings, to Deer Isle in 1763, and Sargentville in 1767, married Hannah Farrar and had ten children. Their son Abel Billings was present at the Battle of Lexington in 1775 and served as a soldier during the Revolution."

He was the person who settled the lot lying southeasterly of, and adjoining, that of Mr. Eaton, on the shore of the Reach. He came here from Boston in 1763, and was the father of Mr. Timothy Billings, noticed as the first child born of white parentage in the town. How many years he resided here is not known, but it could not have been many, as his name does not appear among those who were styled proprietors. Whom he sold his right to we do not know, but at the time of Peters's' survey, in 1798, Mr. Josiah Closson held it. Whether the precise spot occupied by him can be now pointed out is to us unknown. From what information we have we should judge that he removed to Sedgwick. His sons were: Benjamin, who lived in that town, at what is called Sargentville, on the farm since occupied by his son, Mr. Nathan Billings; Abel, who lived and died in Sedgwick; Isaac and Solomon, both deacons of the Baptist Church, who lived and died in Brooksville: the former on the place now occupied by Frederick Billings, Esq., his son, the latter on the northwest side of Walker's Pond; Timothy, who occupied the northwestern lot on Little Deer Island, now owned by Mr. Michael D. Snowman; and Daniel, his youngest son, lived on the land now occupied by his son, Mr. Edward C. Billings. There was another son, John Billings, who died a young man, and a daughter was the wife of Mr. Samuel Howard, who took up the farm lying between those of Messni. Timothy and Daniel Billings, afterward owned by Captain John Gray."

[55034] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 26 Oct 2023: "Penobscot - Robert Sprague Boit, former president of Union Trust Company, passed away peacefully on Oct. 24, 2023. He was born on April 4, 1931, in Boston, the son of John Edward and Marion Sprague Boit of Brookline, Mass. A graduate of St. Pauls School in 1949 and Harvard University in 1953, he often joked that academics were not his strong suit, and that he graduated 'summa good luck.' He made it through one year of Harvard Business School before deciding to enlist in the U.S. Army where he was trained in counterintelligence and stationed in Germany. After returning to Boston, Bob began a career in international banking, eventually running the Paris, France, office of the Bank of Boston. In the early 1970s, he and his wife, Bundy, made the decision to leave the city behind when they purchased a saltwater farm in Penobscot. Bob became executive vice-president, and later president, of Union Trust, which was acquired by Camden National Bank after he retired. Community banking was his passion, and Bob was immensely proud of the banks success and of the people with whom he worked. In his spare time, Bob worked tirelessly at his home on the Bagaduce River, which he and Bundy named Northern Bay Farm. He raised sheep, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and even two ponies, despite being severely allergic to horses. In his younger days, he was an avid duck hunter, often rising in the early morning hours to sit in a duck blind before heading to the bank for work. He later gave up hunting and renewed his childhood interest in flyfishing, which he taught to his three sons. Bob and his sons, and later his grandchildren, had many memorable trips to the western mountains of Maine to fish for native brook trout. But his all-time favorite pastime was mowing his fields on a summer day at the farm. An amateur landscape painter, he called his fields his most loved canvas. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bundy (Harding) Boit; his son, Nick and his wife, Belinda of Ocean Ridge, Fla.; his daughter, Peggy of Waltham, Mass.; his son Sam of Vernon, Conn.; and his son John and his wife, Kate, of Penobscot. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Nathaniel, Jason, Henry, Kathryn, Pearce, Oliver, and Zoe."

They had one son. She was dedicated to her family, taking care of her son. She loved working in her flower beds and attending Ozark Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Roy Dale Christeson. Surviving are two brothers, Lawrence Coatney of Caldwell, Idaho, and Jerry Coatney of Chouteau, Okla.; one sister, Doris Lankford of Elk Creek; and neighbor's children she adopted as grandchildren, Madeline Ramirez, Emily Ramirez and Amy Smith."
