She was born July 2, 1925, in Blue Hill, the daughter of Walter H. and Hilda M. (Candage) Black. Barbara graduated from George Stevens Academy in 1943, and attended the Maine School of Commerce for a year. She worked at Webber's Cove Boat Yard for 27 years, Lambin, Silver & VanPelt for five years, and for the Fenn Family of Ellsworth for many years. She was a charter member of the Christmas Club of Surry. She is survived by a son, Jimmy Carter of Surry; a daughter, Susan McDonald and her husband, Ray of Surry; a brother, Robert Black and his wife, Barbara of East Blue Hill; a sister, Ruby Hunt; an aunt, Ruth Carter of Ellsworth; four grandchildren, Matthew, Torrey, Richard, and Layne, all of Surry; a sister-in-law, Lee Leach of East Blue Hill; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Almon R. Carter; and a brother, Richard Black.
