[50218] "Ellsworth Ameican [Ellsworth, Maine], 30 September 2009": "Lawris was self-employed most of his life, working on his farm and with blueberries. He served as selectman for the town of Blue Hill for 11 years. He was active in the fraternal orders for more than 50 years. He was Past Master of Ira Berry Lodge and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and a former member and Past Master of Halcyon Grange. He judged the horse races at the Blue Hill Fair for more than 50 years. Lawris was a life member of the Maine Trappers Association and the Union River Trappers Association. He hunted, fished and trapped all his life and loved to tell tall tales of his experiences of all the deer, bear and moose he bagged over the years or how many and how big the fish were. In 1995, Lawris was the oldest man in Maine to shoot a moose."

[22333] http://www.aritek.com/hartgen/htm/le-strange.htm (not verified) shared in 2003: "The le Strange legend that has been repeated through successive generations can be found in part of an epic tale, the Romance of Fouke le fitz Warine. This French prose which was written by an unknown author in traditional trouverian style of the 13th century, was translated and reproduced in early medieval times for its popularity gained by the declared outlaw Fulk who is otherwise known as Fulk the son of Warine Ii. It is a story set in the 11th century A.D. wherein it begins with a certain lady, Mellette, who features as the outlaw's grandmother in her youth, she was united with her husband Guy of Metz, whom otherwise was known in France from whence he came, as Guarine or Warine de Metz. The chapter conveys how the le Strange family was founded, prior to the Warines, when Mellette, a beautiful damsel has a jousting tournament arranged for by her wealthy uncle, William Peverel. This was held in the time of William the Conqueror, in 1083 at his Castle Peveril in the Peak of Derbyshire England (shown above), and this is where she was expected to find a suitable husband, to which she replied: "Sire" no knight is there in all the world that I would take for the sake of riches and the honour of this land but if ever I take such a one he shall be handsome and courteous and accomplished and the most valiant of his order in all Christendom. Of riches I make no account, for truly can I say that he is rich who has that which his heart desires" from: Mellette, 'The Romance of Fouk le fitz Warine' Noble-men eager to win her as their bride together with dowry including the attractive white tower of white town, known as Whittington Castle Shropshire, came from every corner; Scotland, Wales and France. The two most salubrious guests, Owen Prince of Wales, and Eneas, Prince of Scotland, brought 200 knights along, - the Duke of Burgundy outnumbered them with a hundred more. Ydromor, Prince of Galloway came with a modest 150 men, but Guy (Guarine de Metz France), son of John, Duke of Brittany, (Johan duc de la Petite-Bretagene), came with only a hundred, plus his 9 brothers. Ultimately, Guy, with his life spared, victoriously claimed his wife, Mellette, whom already expressed her interest in him by sending over her glove. It continues... "..... Guy remained in England: And conquered, by the force of his sword, many beautiful lands, and so was named Guy le Strange ...."

[787] He is also Henry III of Champagne. When Henry's daughter and heiress married a son of King Philip III the County of Champagne lost its independence. Philip III had already issued directives to the 'baillie' of Champagne and soon the 'Jours' of Troyes were staffed by royal officials and the county was in effect a royal province. Champagne and Navarre passed through Henry's daughter Jeanne to her son, Louis X, thence to his daughter Jeanne, who was dispossessed of Champagne by Philip V (1316). [50720] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 7 March 2021": "Portland - Being, at present, sound of mind and body, I thought I'd write my own obituary. Some might say these are my last rights (rites). So, let's be on with it. I was born in Stonington, Maine July 29, 1926, the only child of Harold a. And Alda e. (Goss) small. My parents were wonderful people and, as a result, I had a truly great childhood. Growing up on an island off the coast of Maine is pretty hard to beat - swimming, boating and fishing in the summer - skating and sliding in the winter. What a blast! WWII was on during my high school years and many of us kids worked in the local shipyard. I went to Maine Maritime Academy in Castine and on graduation (1946) I went to sea as an engineer. I had a great experience seeing the world and appreciating the people of other countries. I married Sadie 'Babe' Eaton from Little Deer isle in 1951. We had two daughters, Joan (Giles) and Linda (Johnston). I came ashore to except an offer from travelers Ins. Co. as a safety engineer manager of their Portland, Maine office. Life was good. We boated in summer and skied in winter. We went down home to deer Isle/Stonington often and simply enjoyed life then, babe passed away in 1987. I was a drift for awhile but fortunately met a lovely lady Eleanor (Caminiti) Caprio. Her husband, Bill, also passed an 87. We married in 1991. Eli has a wonderful family of three daughters Linda and Phil Rowbottom Barbara and Gary Johnson and Donna and David Banks. Over the years we have traveled four times around this great country of ours. We have enjoyed our homes at parsons' pond, Park Danforth and at Camp on Little Sebago. Between us we have lots of grandchildren and great grandchildren, they all are a joy. I've talked enough, but didn't cover all that I wanted to. So, now we come to what to do with me. I am going to have my ashes scattered in Eggemoggin reach. I started out on Deer Isle and ended up there. In between, I had a great life - good wives - good kids - good jobs - so how can you beat that. Enjoy the rest of your life, be kind to your family and others, be honest, humble and a good citizen. 'Au Revoir' (did I spell that right?) Oh, yes, if you'd like to donate in my memory, the Island Nursing Home, Route 15, Deer Isle, ME 04627, they can always find good ways to use the money. Monty sailed off peacefully on a new adventure February 24, 2021. Much loved and missed by all who knew him. Forever in our hearts."
