[53456] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 24 March 2022: "Standish - Robert "Bob/Bobby" Harold Babson, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home on March 21, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family. He was born in Castine, Maine, on June 13, 1937, a son of the late Robert Llewelyn and Frances Marie (Gross) Babson. Bob graduated from George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, ME, in 1955. After graduation, he worked various jobs, including H.F. Westcott Hardware in Bucksport. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1961, where he was stationed in Casablanca, Morocco. He enjoyed talking about his experiences during that time, especially his leave opportunities where he visited various European countries, such as England and Spain. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he moved to Portland, Maine, and worked for Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland. He spent almost his entire career in the Glass Shop, where he was a scientific glassblower. He was highly skilled in this work, and well-respected by his colleagues. He worked for Fairchild for 47 years, retiring in 2009. Bob enjoyed spending time with family, woodworking, fishing, hunting, canoeing, kayaking, walking, and watching the Red Sox. He and his son Rob had a standing ritual of catching a Sea Dogs game every summer. A creature of habit, he liked to pick up the paper, grab a breakfast sandwich and coffee, and sit by Sebago Lake. Bob and Joanne Kief were old high school sweethearts, rekindling their relationship in 2018 after more than 60 years, and enjoyed reminiscing, canoeing, hiking, and kayaking during Bob's final years. They spoke almost every day on the phone, catching up, sometimes doing the BDN Crossword. Bob adored his family, especially his children, to whom he was a role model of independence, generosity, respect, and hard work. A pillar of support, if one of his children or grandchildren had a project needed doing, he'd be there the next day with all the tools and know-how to get it done. He'd often leave the tools with his kids, and say, 'Why don't you hang onto that?' It was his way of saying, 'You completed the project, now here's a gift for the next time you need it.' Bob is survived by his girlfriend, Joanne Kief of Hancock; former wife, Sandra Ann Babson of Standish; their children - Thomas John Babson of Limington, Robert Harold Haley-Babson and his wife, Camelia Babson-Haley, of Portland, and Christopher Francis Babson of Standish; sister - Sandra Jean Orcutt and husband Bill Orcutt, of Orland; and a brother - Jerold Leroy Babson and his partner, Sally Howard, of Bucksport; four grandchildren - Anthony Dammeyer, Audrey Yera-Paez, Aeryn Babson, and Jeremiah Haley; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews."

[28668] "Times Union [Brooklyn, New York], 02 July 1931," p. 24: "Mrs. Julia T. Dick, widow of J. Henry Dick, died this morning at 7 o'clock, at her home on Ocean ave., Islip, L. I. Mrs. Dick suffered a fractured hip about four weeks ago, and was apparently recovering when she died of a heart attack this morning. Born Julia T. Mollenhauer, the daughter of the late John Mollenhauer, Mrs. Dick was representative of families which were pioneers, not only in Brooklyn's sugar industry but also in the borough's banking and financial affairs. Her husband, who died about five years ago, was the son of the late William Dick, who was one of the builders of the sugar refining firm of Dick & Meyer and a founder of the old Manufacturers' Bank. Her brother, J. Adolph Mollenhauer, who died several years ago. brought closer the bond between the two families, when he married a sister of J. Henry Dick. Mrs. Mollenhauer lives at Bay Shore. The two families, of late years, maintained residences in Manhattan and Islip. Mrs. Dick leaves four children, two sons and two daughters. They are William K. Dick, who married Mrs. John Jacob Astor; Adolph Dick, Mrs. Horace Havemeyer, the former Doris Dick, and Mrs. W. Kingsland Macy, who, before her marriage, was Julia Dick. Mrs. Macy is tho wife of the Republican State Chairman. Nine grandchildren are also among the surviving relatives. The funeral services probably will take place at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 65th st. and Central Park West, Manhattan, from which her husband, Henry Dick, was buried in 1925. The Rev. Dr. Paul Shearer, who officiated then, probably will be assisted by the Rev. William H. Garth, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, of Islip, and the interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery. Both Mrs. Dick's father, John Mollenhauer, and her late husband's father, William Dick, came this country from Germany at the same time that Carl Schurz and other distinguished Germans emigrated on account of political troubles. They separately laid the foundations for the great sugar refining industry, which their descendants developed to such magnitude, and which in later years lined the Williamsburgh waterfront with refineries and brought shipping to that shore in vast numbers from the tropics. During her residence of 43 years in Islip, Mrs. Dick had been a consistant supporter of charitable and philanthropic works in an unostentatious way."
