[5463] Louis, Prince of Battenberg, changed his name to Montbatten in 1917, in the same year as George V changed the surname of the royal family to Windsor. He was fluent in French and German, a skilled pianist and artist, who had been elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. In October, 1914 the German-accented Prince Louis, feeling that the criticisms of him as head of the Navy were a distraction from the war effort, resigned as First Sea Lord.

He was born April 24, 1882, in Mifflin Township and had lived here most of his life. Mr. Sturgeon was a retired carpenter. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Howard Remy of 87 Chilton Ave.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The 1900 federal census of Mifflin Twp., Richland Co., OH shows him in the household of his parents.
