[44872] "The Record-Argus, Greenville, PA., 28 Nov 1874" p. 7: Fatal Accident at Rochester.- At 6 o'clock, last Friday evening, as the Wellsville accomodation west, was approaching the depot at Rochester, Captain Elijah Barnes, a well known citizen, and ex-treasurer of Beaver county, attempted to cross in front of the engine, when he was struck, knocked down and fatally injured. Both legs were severed below the knees, and he was otherwise mutilated. He survived his injuries but a short time. The Captain had served in the army during the rebellion, and lost an arm in battle. He was a very worthy citizen, and highly esteemed for his amiable traits of character. He leaves a wife and three children."
