Created Lord Boyd in 1454 by James II, he was one of the Regents during the minority of King James III, in 1460. He conspired with his brother, Sir Alexander Boyd, and obtained possession of the King's person in 1466 and was made by Act of Parliament sole Governor of the Realm. He negotiated the marriage between James and Margaret of Denmark. He was appointed Great Chamberlain for life, and Lord Justice General in 1467. Conflict broke out between the King and the Boyd family. Robert, and his son Thomas Boyd, 1st Earl of Arran (who was married to Princess Mary), were out of the country involved in diplomatic activities when their regime was overthrown. Robert, 1st Lord Boyd was pronounced guilty of treason and fled firstly to Alnwick, Northumberland. His brother and assistant, Sir Alexander Boyd, was captured and beheaded on 22 November 1469. Robert 1st Lord Boyd fought in the English service in the French wars, and died in exile. He married Mariotta, daughter of Sir John Maxwell of Calderwood, and had numerous issue. One of his daughters, Elizabeth, married Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus."

Summoned for service in Gascony in December of 1324. He was appointed, by Prince Edward's government, Sheriff of Yorkshire (Nov 1326) and was a member of the Council of Regency in February 1326/27. In November 1327, he served as a commissioner to negotiate with the Scots for peace, as well as a similar role with France in February 1329/30. In 1334, he entertained the King at Helmsley, and during the King's absence in Flanders, he was one of the commissioners to preserve the peace in that country. He took part in the defense of Newcastle against the Scots. Buried at Kirkham in Lancashire." He was the son of Peter Dixon who had a grant of land, 36 acres, in Kittery, 26 March 1679; about that time he married Mary Remick, daughter of Christian Remick. He built his house on that lot, at a spot a short distance below Boiling Rock, and that locality has ever since been called "Dixon's Point." The house of the late F. A. Dixon stands on the spot whre Peter built the first house that stood on the land. He was a ship-carpenter; he did not have a yard of his own, but worked in the Diamond shipyard many years. He died on crusade. m Agnes de Dampierre, daughter of Guy de Dampierre-sur-l'Aube Vicomte de Troyes & his wife Helvide de Baudémont (-after 1192). He had been in ill health the past two years, although he was bedfast only a week. Death was due to diabetes. Mr. Welker was a son of the late Daniel and Sarah (Faust) Welker and was born in Lykens Township, September 27, 1862. He was confirmed a member of the Gratz Reformed Church and was united in marriage to Adaline E. Umholtz by the late Rev. W. G. Engle. Mrs. Welker passed away a number of years ago. He is survived by four sons and eight daughters: John Welker, Lykens R. D.; Charles Welker, Elizabethville R. D.; Harry Welker, Gratz and Edward Welker, Steelton; Mrs. Albert Klock, Gratz; Mrs. Edwin Hartman, Gratz; Mrs. German Daniel, Lykens R. D.; Mrs. Francis Scheib, Lykens R. D.; Mrs. Charles Hess, Halifax R. D.; Mrs. Elias Bowers, Millersburg R. D.; Mrs. Norman Sitlingegr, Gratz and Mrs. Ira Mausser, Elizabethville R. D. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Adaline Miller, thirty-five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Welker was a lifetime resident of the Gratz community where he had engaged in farming for many years."
