[47427] James is son of Franklin James Grider (1875-1919) & Cordelia Allen (1872-1939). "Rogersville Review [Rogersville, Tennessee], 26 February 1942," p. 1: "James Hobart Grider, 44, died at the Vanderbilt hospital, Nashville on Saturday, Feb 21st. About ten days before his death he had submitted to a surgical operation for the removal of a brain tumor. Mr Grider was born and reared near Mooresburg and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grider, both deceased. Seven years ago he moved to Rogersville having accepted a position as mechanic in the Card and Label plant. Up until within five weeks of his death he continued to work there but had been in failing health for a year. He is survived by his wife, who before marriage was Gladys Smith of Rogersville; four sons, Kyle, F. J. and Elmer of Detroit, Mich., and Arthur, Rogersville; two daughters, Mrs. Hiram Lovin and Mrs Milum Trent, Mooresburg. At the age of twelve years he became a member of Big Hill Baptist church. Later he became a teacher in the Sunday school, superintendent of the Sunday school and a deacon of the church as well as song leader. After removal to Rogersville he joined the Rogersville Baptist church and was active in the Sunday school, Training Union and worship services of the church."

"Battle Creek Enquirer [Battle Creek, Michigan], 24 December 1940," p. 7: "Funeral services for the Rev. Bernie Harpham, Algansee township farmer and retired Free Methodist pastor, will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday from the Free Methodist church here. Burial will be in Lester cemetery. Rev. Harpham died Sunday night in his home in Algansee township after several months' illness. He was born Oct 29, 1886, in Branch county, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Harpham. and trained for the ministry at Spring Arbor seminary. He later served several pastorates, his last being the Detroit Second Church from which he resigned four years ago because of failing health. Surviving is the widow, Jennie (Luce); a daughter, Florence, and a son. Dale, both at home; and his mother, Mrs. William Ammerman of near Coldwater."
