[24983] Doug Thompson offers at http://freespace.virgin.net/doug.thompson/BraoseWeb/index1.htm: "'That year, on the feast-day of Thomas the Martyr, Maud de Braose, mother of the sons of Gruffydd ap Rhys, died at Llanbadarn Fawr, after she had received communion, confession and penance and taken the habit and she was buried with her husband at Strata Florida.' ('Brut y Tywysogyon,' entry for 1210) Married in 1189 to Gruffydd ap Rhys, Prince of Deheubarth. d. 25 July 1201, buried at the Abbey of Strata Florida (ByT). After his father's death in 1197, Gruffydd was handed over to the English government by Gwenwynwyn, lord of Powys, imprisoned in Corfe castle, then brought in to negotiate with Powys during Gwenwynwyn's campaign against William de Braose's stronghold at Painscastle. His wife Maud was kept as his hostage, and an entry on the Pipe Roll for 1198 shows her in Bridgenorth castle. A little boat was hired to take her by the Severn to Gloucester (Pipe Roll, 10 Richard I., p. 108). Child 1: Rhys Ieuanc d. Aug 1222, buried at Strata Florida (ByT). Child 2: Owain d. 17 Jan 1235, buried at Strata Florida (ByT). Child 3: Lleucu (Leuca) = Geoffrey de Camville."

[26103] This line is from One World Tree at Ancestry.com in 2007 and is not verified. http://www.legendoflewis.com/Wales.htm offers: "Caradog 'large arm' seems to have begun as ruler in Ewyas about the year 500 and expanded his realm to include Fferlix, the Welsh lands between the Wye and Severn Rivers or roughly what is now called Radnorshire. He also is credited with rule in a large part of neighboring Brycheiniog although male descendants of Brychan its founder still lived; how that occurred is unknown. The claim that Caradog married a daughter of Brychan is no more than one historian's attempt to answer that question; neither the marriage nor the daughter occur in the oldest Brychan manuscripts. About five and one half centuries after Caradog Freich Fras, the old pedigrees identify Bleddyn ap Maenyrch, born c. 1045, as his direct male descendant and king of Brycheiniog (Brecknock) in 1093 when the Normans invaded."
