[33459] This line is from the unverified Cooper Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2012. "The News-Chronicle [Shippinsburg, Pennsylvania], 14 July 1944," p. 4: "Sixty-five years ago Alva Curtis Clugston entered the mercantile business at Doylesburg, in Path Valley, at the age of 24. Today, as this same person prepares to celebrate his 90th birthday, Clugston General Store has become a vital part of the community of Doylesburg. Not only does Mr. Clugston provide the citizens of Doylesurg with groceries, clothing and the other items that constitute the stock of a general store, but he also furnishes one and all, free of charge, a keen sense of humor and human understanding that have not been dulled by the passing of four score and ten. Mr. Clugston first entered business with his father, the late Dr. Isaac Clugston in 1879, and in 1881 he opened a store of his own. Accounts of the hardships that merchants of those days encountered included tales of numerous trips over the mountains to Shippensburg where he purchased merchandise, packed it on horses, and then made the trip back over the mountains. 'A traveling salesman was a welcome sight in those days,' related this venerable merchant. 'I was always glad to be able to buy anything that would save me a journey over the mountains.'"
