[4514] William was Duke of Aquitaine and Count of Poitou and Avergne. Dr. Erick Brandenburg, "Die Nachkommen Karls des Grossen" (1935), p. 66 is cited by a correspondent as source of birth-year 925 for William and death date 3 April 963, and for approximate death date for his wife, "Gerloc (Adele)", 14 Oct 962. "Ancestral Roots..." (Balt., 1992) 110-23 states that William II is son of William I of Poitou.

[1961] For the three Kings Edward, see "The Three Edwards: War and State in England, 1272-1377," Michael Prestwich (N.Y.: St. Martin's Press, 1980). Among its features is an excellent annotated bibliography. Edward III at age 18 took a group of young nobles through a secret passageway into Nottingham Castle where they surprised and siezed Mortimer (who had been regent for Edward III), who was hanging in infamy in Tyburn.

[14404] http://www.guide2womenleaders.com: "Also known as Renata di Francia. Her mother, Duchess Anne of Bretagne, who had always fought fiercely to keep the state independent of the French crown, tried to will the duchy to Renée, but her father King Louis XII ignored this and instead granted Brittany to his successor, the husband of her sister, Francis I, King of France. In return for renouncing her claims to the duchy of Brittany, she was granted the duchy of Chartres. She was married in 1528 to Ercole II d'Este, Duke of Ferrara who ruled 1534-59. After his death she returned to France because she was on bad terms with her son Alfonso II and settled in Montargis. She was mother of 4 children . . . ."
