Nicholas Byram, according to family traditon, was the son of a English gentleman of some prominence. William h. Byram and his wife, Mary, of the County of Kent, who removed to Iceland about the time this son was born in 1610. His father sent him at the age of sixteen to visit his friends in England in charge of a man who betrayed his trust, robbed him of his money, and took him to the West Indies, supposed to have been Barbadoes, where he was sold to service to pay his passage, and after his term expired he made his way to New England in 1633 or '34, and settled at Weymouth. He married Susanne (36), daughter of Abrram (35), of Dedham about 1635. In 1660 he bought three proprietary of original purchase rights in Bridgewater, viz.: Moses Simmons, Phillip Delanos, and George Soules, and settled there son after. he died in 1688. His wife died April 13, 1688-9. Their children, all born at Weymouth, were as follows:
- Nicholas, Jr.; married Mary, daughter of Samuel Edson, January, 1676. He was born about 1640.
- Abigail, born 1636 or 1637; married Thomas Whitman, 1656.
- Deliverance; married Rev. john Porter, 1660.
- Experience; married John Willis.
- Susanne; married Samuel Edson, about 1677.
- Mary, married Sammuel Leach.

A note in Ancestry.com in 2014 offers: "The Family of Johann Peter & Elisabeth (Schmidt or Schweidt) Gerhart of Earlington, Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. They are the parents of eleven children, 6 sons and 5 daughters. Peter and Elisabeth Gerhart were among the founding members of Christ German Reformed Church at Indian Creek, Franconia Township. They are buried in the church yard there, as are many of their descendants. They were the proprietors of 'Rising Sun Inn' on the Allentown Road at the Branch Creek Ford. During the American Revolution, in September of 1777 the British were occupying the city of Philadelphia the patriots removed to bells from their towers in that city. The church bells as well as the State House Bell to keep them from the British. The State House Bell is better known by the name 'The Liberty Bell'. The bells were loaded on wagons and secreted out of the city and taken to Northampton, now Allentown. On the journey to Northampton the bells and their protectors stopped at Gerhart's Rising Sun Inn on the 'Great Road.'"
