Bowden, 80, passed away peacefully Nov. 2, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born May 27, 1931, in Orrington, son of Vinal and Ruth (Norwood) Bowden. Edgar graduated from Bucksport High School, class of 1950. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of Bucksport American Legion. He retired after 40 years of service from Champion International Paper Mill, Bucksport. After retirement he worked at Hermon Mountain Ski Area in the rental shop with his family. He was a member of Elm Street Congregational Church and Bucksport Senior Citizen. Edgar enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn (Dorr) Bowden of Verona Island; three children, David Bowden and his wife, Doriann, of Hampden, Debora Atwood and her husband, Terry, of Prospect, and Marlene Whitcomb and her husband, William Jr., of Prospect; six grandchildren, Melissa Brown and her husband, Ed, William Whitcomb III and his wife, Joette, Kam Atwood and her partner, Megan Russell, Corey Atwood and his wife, Julia, Dante Bowden and Shayla Bowden; four great-grandchildren, Haley Brown, Breanna Brown, Nora Whitcomb and Abigail Whitcomb; brother, Calvin Bowden and his wife, Nancy, of Bucksport; sister, Inez R. Pickering of Orland; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Beatrice Prock. The family gives thanks to the staff at Maine Veterans Home for the special care they gave Edgar during his stay; and to Dottie and Mike Harriman, and Joyce Donnell."
