"Epitaphs from Burial Hill" by Bradford Kingman: 'Rev. John Cotton was born in Boston, March 13, 1640. Graduated at Harvard College, 1657. Settled pastor of the First Church in Plymouth, June 30, 1669. Dismissed, October, 5, 1697. Sailed for Charleston, S. C., Nov. 15, 1698. Preached in Connecticut and Martha's Vineyard, 1664 to 1667. He was eminent for his knowledge of the Indian language, and frequently preached to the aborigines at Plymouth in their native tongue. He revised and corrected Eliot's Indian Bible, printed at Cambridge in 1685. His residence was on the north side of Leyden street. His sons, John, Roland and Theophilus were clergymen.' (Page 7) John's parents were the esteemed pastor John Cotton of Boston and his wife Sarah Hawkridge."

[40145] The unverified Gasbarro Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2015 offers: "When John Hermann was born on March 25, 1699, in Ahrweiler, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, his father, Matthias, was 36 and his mother, Christina, was 31. He married Catharine Schuller on October 10, 1724, in Ahrweiler, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. They had 14 children during their marriage. He died in February 1774 in Tryon, North Carolina, at the age of 74."
[25151] NEGHR for July, 1917, p. 236 states: "Sir Gilbert Jocelyn, a wealthy Norman knight, came into England, it is said, with the Conqueror, and married the daughter of a Saxon thane. He settled in Lincolnshire, where he held of Gilbert of Gaunt the lordships of Semperingham and Tyhrrington." His son, Gilbert, became a priest and "held the livings of Semperingham and Tyrrington. [Gilbert] was clerk to the Bishops of Lincoln, but refused to accept the office of Archdeacon of Lincoln. [Gilbert] founded at Semperingham an order for monks and nuns which was later known as the Gilbertine Order. Many miracles are said to have been wrought for those who prayed at his tomb, and in 1202 he was canonized by Pope Innocent III as St. Gilbert of Semperingham, 4 Fe. being his commemoration day."
