[45924] "Battle Creek Enquirer [Battle Creek, Michigan], 27 August 2003," p. 4: "Georgia Day, 101, of Coldwater, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at the Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater. Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 29, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 52 Marshall Street, Coldwater, for Georgia Day, with Dr. James Troust officiating. Mrs. Day was born August 23, 1901, in Sanilac County, Michigan, to Rev. George and Myra Grant Georgia. She was graduated from Croswell High School, then attended Michigan State Normal (Eastern Michigan University) and Cleary Business College at the same time, earning simultaneous degrees in business and education. She taught at Union City High School for five years, spending one exciting summer vacation in New York City working as a Kelly Girl, enjoying plays and sight seeing. She married Ralph Day, June 27, 1926, and they moved to Battle Creek in 1927. The daughter of two ministers, Mrs. Day was a woman who lived a life of great faith. She was active in the Lakeview Baptist Church, having taught Church School classes for forty-five years. She also substituted in the Lakeview School System and taught night school classes in the Battle Creek School System. Georgia was a creative soul - a pastel and watercolor artist and talented seamstress. She loved to garden and was an avid bird watcher. Her grandchildren remember with delight the long-stemmed, deep purple violets that grew in masses in her garden in Battle Creek. She shared her love of art and nature with her family. She was a loving parent, grandparent and a devoted spouse. She had a knack for making each of her grandchildren feel special. Georgia and her husband Ralph spent many winters in Arizona and Florida enjoying sunshine and no snow. While in Florida they attended Detroit Tigers spring training games. She remained an enthusiastic Tiger fan. In 1977, she and her husband moved to Coldwater. They both became members of the First Presbyterian Church and she continued teaching church school for a time. She was a Deacon from 1985 to 1988, and was also active in the church women's circles. Georgia was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Anna Leah Schlappi, her husband, Ralph and her son-in-law, Donald Reppert. She will be remembered by her daughter, Georgann Reppert, grandchildren, Ralph and Jane Reppert, Katherine Reppert, Muriel and Gerry Hice, Joy and Darwin Maurer, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many friends."

[413] See "15 Generations of Whipples: Descendants of Matthew Whipple of Ipswich, Massachusetts, Abt. 1590-1647: An American Story," Blaine Whipple (Baltimore: Gateway Press, 2007), four volumes. Matthew left half of his estate to his eldest son, John, and the other half to the two younger sons, Matthew and Joseph. His will also mentions daughters Anne and Elizabeth. Matthew (Sr.) was for many years a Deacon of the Congregational Church at Ipswich. In 1638 he and his brother, Elder John Whipple, received a grant of more than 200 acres. The earliest mention of Whipple is Richard Wiphull, Wiltshire, listed in the Hundred Rolls of 1273. The Exchequer Lay Subsidy during the reign of Edward III (1327-77) lists William de Whipfulle and Richard de Whyphull, both of Somersetshire. In 1385 a William Whelple, cordwainer, is found at the Court of Hustings, London (proved 1398). A Rev. Mr. John Wyppyl of Rotherfeld, Sussex is listed in Early Chancery Proceedings (ca. 1502-04). In the Essex Lay Subsidies for12 February 1546 at Braintree we find Thomas Whipple. We have no idea how these relate to our line, if at all. The basic reference for our line is "Descendants of Matthew Whipple" and a Whipple Genealogy by Henry Waters, both at the Ipswich Historical Society. A descendancy from Matthew's son, Joseph, is reputed to be offered in "Byram-Crawford and Allied Families Genealogy - Revised Edition," Dorothy Roberts Chisum (Wichita Falls, TX: Nortex Press, 1976).
