[53559] Irving served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army dring World War II. He is son of George I. Simmons (b. in 1894) & Cecelia A. Savage (b. in 1897; m. 18 March 1929 in Maine). "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 10 December 1979, p. 34: "Charleston - Irving Simmons, 61, husband of Charlotte (Strout) Simmons, died Dec. 7, 1979 at a Bangor hospital following a long illness. He was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Charleston, the son of George and Bertha (Bickmore) Simmons. He first served in the Canadian army after which he joined the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He had worked as a self-employed trucker and was a member of the Charleston United Baptist Church. He was a member of the Brown-Dow-Leavitt Post, VFW, of Charleston; the East Corinth Post, American Legion. He is survived by his wife of Charleston; his mother of Gardiner; four sons, Harold, David and John, all of Charleston, George 6f Upper Heyford, England; one daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Laura) Partridge of East Corinth; one granddaughter, Erica Jean Partridge of East Corinth; several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews."
