He fought in Flanders in 1295 and helped mount the Siege of Carlaverock in 1300. He saw further service in Scotland in 1303, 1306, 1308 and 1311. He was summoned to many councils (parliaments) for diplomatic negotiations and ceremonial duties such as Edward II's coronation, and performed other such duties that the Barony was duly created for him. Both his mother and daugher were married into the le Despenser family whose relationship with the Crown was so intimate."

She was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Deer Isle, the daughter of Ernest and Vera Sprague Heanssler of Sunshine. She graduated from Deer Isle High School and Bangor School of Beauty Culture. She worked as a beautician in Boston and New York City, as well as opening her own Beauty Shop at her home in Sunshine. Ernestine was a long time member of Sunshine Advent Christian Church, where she served as deaconess. Her passion was mission work. She served as president of both her local and state Mission Societies for many years. Ernestine shared 47 years in marriage with her childhood sweetheart, Eugene H. Eaton of Sunshine, who died in 1990. In addition to her husband and parents, Ernestine was predeceased by a brother, Clifford Heanssler; and a daughter, Joan Elaine. Family members she leaves behind include Wilbur MacDonald and wife, Carolyn; brother-in-law, Minot Eaton; sister-in-law, Mary Heanssler; daughter, Faye Rey-nard and husband, Phil, of Bridgton; and son, James E. Eaton and wife, Marianne, of Sunshine. Her grandchildren include Angela and Russ Stibitz, Traci and Kevin Van Brunt, Jennifer and Ryan Larribee, Christine Eaton and Peter and Michelle Eaton. Her great-grandchildren include Tucker, Abigail and Owen Van Brunt and Skyler and Jacob Larribee. She also leaves behind several nephews and nieces, and a loving church family. A funeral service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Sunshine Advent Christian Church, Stonington."
