Esther Cline's obituary:
Mrs. William H. Paullin, a pionerr [pioneer] resident of Madison county, died at her home here last Thursday after an illness of three weeks. She was 80 years old. Last June, she and her husband had celebrated their golden wedding anniversay.
Mrs. Paullin was born Esther Cline in Louisa county, Iowa, on February 25, 1854. As a child she came with her parents to this county and settled in Douglas township. On June 10, 1874, she was married to W. H. Paullin, and they were the parents of eight children, five of whom survive.
. . . . . .
Funeral services were held at the First M. E. church in Winterset on August 12, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. L. H. Lanning was in charge. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
. . . . . .
On June 10, 1874, she was united in marriage with William H. Paullin. To this union eight children were born. Two of them died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Clark, died at the age of forty-five. Mr. and Mrs. Paullin celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on June 10th last.
Mrs. Paullin was a member of the Winterset Methodist Episcopal church for over thirty years and was ever devoted to the services of the church and the spread of the gospel. She was a member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, and was an ardent worker in the cause of temperance, having a certificate of Life Patron in the Union, bearing the date of 1927. She was a member of the Woman's Relief Corp of Winterset.
In her death she leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, William Paullin, and five children, Luella Orr, of Winterset; Elmer Paullin, of Des Moines; Edward H. Paullin and Mrs. Minnie McDonald, of Winterset; and B. A. Paullin, of Peru. There are twenty grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Paullin was taken sick about three weeks ago, and though she did not suffer pain, through the days of extreme heat she constantly grew weaker. On Thursday night, August 9, 1934, she succumbed to death, passing quietly and peaceably from the flesh. Her husband and children were with her. She was aged 80 years, 5 months and 14 days.

[3653] Edward is son of Edgar and his first wife, Aethelflaed. He was crowned at Kingston in 975 and was assassinated at Corfe Castle, Devonshire, perhaps as a part of his step-mother's plot to secure the throne for her son, Aethelred. First buried at Wareham, his remains were later reburied at Shaftsbury. http://www.san.beck.org/AB17-FeudalEurope.html reports "Edgar died in 975; his elder son Edward had offended many with his violence, and his rule was soon challenged. Some, such as Mercia ealdorman Aelfhere, began destroying monasteries Edgar had founded. Edward was murdered while visiting his half-brother Aethelred in March 978."
