[906] Col. Daniel Pierce came on the Ship Elizabeth from Ipswich, England in April of 1634. He married Sarah (?) _____ who is mother of his children. He also married Mrs. Anne Millwood (d. 27 Nov 1690). He was a blacksmith. {See "Seven Pierce Families," by Harvey C. Pierce, 1936. Coffin, p. 314, says he "came from London to Watertown."} Ref. "Pierce Genealogy," Frederick Clifton Pierce (Worcester, Mass., 1880), p. 233. Daniel first settled in Watertown where he was a proprietor in February, 1637; made a freeman 2 May 1638; moved to Newbury in 1638; sold his four lots in Watertown. Ancestry.com offers: "Pierce Name Meaning - English, Welsh, and Irish: from the personal name Piers, the usual Norman vernacular form of Peter. In Wales this represents a patronymic ap Piers. In Ireland it represents a reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Piarais son of Piaras, a Gaelicized form of Piers"

German and Jewish (Ashkenazic): from Middle High German struze, German Strauss ostrich, hence a habitational name for someone who lived at a house distinguished by the sign of an ostrich, or (among the German nobility) a nickname for someone whose coat-of-arms featured an ostrich, or a nickname for someone thought to resemble the bird. Wasson and Martha Seaton according to the GenWeb site for ME which reports that he and Elizabeth also had Samuel (Jr.), Betsy ("Elisa"), Polly, David and Simeon. "Maritime History of Brooksville," LeCain W. Smith (Brooksville, ME Historical Society, 2005), p. 88 states "Son of John Wasson and Martha Seaton. Married Elizabeth Parker. This captain was a military man and merchant who built the sloop 'Polly & Hannah' with John Wasson in 1800. In 1820 he built the schooner 'Brooksville,' which sailed for 25 years. He owned her with people from Castine and other places."

Vance was a U.S. Army veteran, an avid farmer, and was a multi-million-mile safe driver for Roadway Express prior to his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Shepherdstown United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife, Eleanor (Criswell) Weber; his children, Karen Weber, Todd Weber, and Wanda Julias, all of Mechanicsburg; as well as his grandchildren, Kaylin Mae and Jesse Weber Julias, also of Mechanicsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, Milton, and Robert Weber."
