[20567] This daughter m. Edward Carpenter.
Robert m. Sarah _____. Robert r. Salem, 1637, enrolled as a member of the church 15 May 1642, moved to New London in 1651 & obtained tract on east side of Thames River in town of Ledyard; styled self as "of New Norridge" in 1681; Constable, 1669; returned to New London & died on his farm there at Allyn's Point. He is probably the son of George Allyn who was a cod fisherman off Newfoundland. Robert was 29 when he settled in Salem in 1637. He moved to Connecticut with the Cape Ann Company and must have brought money with him as he was among those purchasing lots on Cape Ann Lane as well as a large grant up the river at Allyn's Point. In '56 he began trading from there in his own vessel. See "History of Mountville, Conn., " p. 514.
"Blackman and Allied Families," Alfred L. Holman (1928) reports the given name, Sarah, of Robert's wife, and states Robert was b. Eng. ca. 1616; was brother of William Allen, early settler of Manchester, MA, said to have been born in Manchester, England - William came to Gloucester, MA in the Dorcester Company in 1623-4 and went to Salem with Roger Conant in 1626.
Abner Oakes III shared via Internet in Aug 1998: "I have a lot of information going back to Richard Allyn born Braunton [now Brampton] in Devonshire, England. He married Margaret Wyatt on Sept 24, 1583 and their children were Emett 1584; Wilmot 1590; Thomas 1597; Richard 1601; Matthew 1605. His will dated 1647 mentions 10 grandchildren. He died in 1652. His three sons emigrated to America." [A Matthew Allyn, baptised 17 April 1605 in Braunton, Devonshire, emigrated to America and died 01 Feb 1671 at Windsor, Conn., apparently son of Richard Allyn and Margaret Wyatt. See Frank Thistlethwaite's "Dorset Pilgrims" (London: Barrie & Jenkins, 1989).]
"History of New London County, Conn. with Biographical Sketches of many of it's Pioneers and Prominent Men," compiled under the Supervision of D. Hamilton Hurd (Philadephia: J. W. Lewis & Co. 1882, Press of J.B. Lippincott & Co., Philadelphia), p. 761: "ROBERT ALLYN was of Salem in 1637, and enrolled as a member of the church May 15, 1642. He removed to New London in 1651, where he obtained a grant of a large farm on the east side of the river, at a place still known as ALLYN POINT, but now in the town of LEDYARD. He was one of the first company of purchasers of NORWICH, and resided for several years in the western part of the town plot. In 1661 he styles himself of "New Norridge," and held the office of constable in 1669, but in a deed of 1681 uses the formula, 'I, ROBERT ALLYN, of NEW LONDON.' Among the early settlers of the country we often meet with persons whom it is difficult to locate. They possess lands that lap over the bounds of adjoining settlements, and sometimes appear to belong to different townships at one and the same time. ROBERT ALLYN had doubtless reliquished his house in NORWICH to his son JOHN and retired to his farm on the river in 1655, within the bounds of NEW LONDON, where he died in 1683. His age is unknown, but he was freed from training in 1669, probably upon attaining the age of 60, the customary limit of military service; this would make him about seventy-five at death. The heirs of his estate were his son JOHN and four daughters, -- SARAH, wife of GEORGE GEER; Mary, wife of Thomas Parke; Hannah, wife of Thomas Rose; and Deborah, who afterwards married John Gager, Jr. The son received L 133, and each of the daughters L 66 6s. JOHN ALLYN, the son married, Dec. 24, 1668, 'Elizabeth daughter of John Gager, of New Norwich'....."

[1920] http://www.guide2womenleaders.com/womeninpower/Womeninpower1000.htm reports "She became Regent when her husband, Stephen de Blois, took part in the first crusade. He had no enthusiasm for this duty but Adela considered that he ought to go, so he went. A capable administrator, she is believed to have played a major role in managing her husband's lands. Stephen de Blois went together with Adela's brother, Robert, Duke of Normandie. In 1099, Stephen returned to France but was forced by Adela to return to the East, where he was killed in the battle of Ramleh in 1102. Adeleide continued as Regent during the minority of her sons and was increasingly active in public life. She made her son Thibaud her successor in 1109 and entered a convent in the diocese of Autun. Here she continued to wield an important influence in public and clerical affairs."

(Portland, ME. 1928-1939; Baltimore, MD, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., p. 606.)} Note: The LDS Church's unverified Ancestral File 9J6T-P3 states Sarah b. ca. 1640 in Kittery, ME m. 1663 in Berwick, ME Peter Turbat (b. 1637 in Wells, ME).
Al Broom (abroomn606@rogers.com)shared via email 3 Sept 2003: "I found the following in the Goodwin Genealogy: Sarah Sanders--> After Turbet's death in 1661, his widow was courted by Robert Eliott. This courtship was entered into with so much fervency that the marriage was considered certain. Eliot as the future husband of the widow was appointed administrator of Turbet's estate. The court records tell the rest of the story. July 1672 'wheras former administration was granted Robert Eliot on Peter Turbet's estate, deceased, in relation to his marrying the said Turbet's widow, which he did not do, the said administration is null: and the court from the desire of the said Turbet's widow grants administration to his son John.' I see that Turbat {Turbert} was a given name in the Domeday Book." Al Broom shared via email 3 Jan 2004: "Taken off a message board.........Author Jill Goodwin Palmer: Daniel Goodwin born about 1620 in England died 1712 Maine. He came to America possibly in 1638, possiblly with his brother Stephen, landing in Virgina and settling in Kittery Maine. He married [1] 1654 Margaret Spencer, daughter of Thomas and Patience [Chadbourne] Spencer of Berwick, Maine. [2] 1673 Sarah Saunders [Sanders] widow of Peter Turbet, daughter of John and Anne Saunders {Sanders]. The main thrust of her message was that several generations of Goodwins moved and apparently are still living in Nova Scotia."
