[22018] The Odenkirf Family History (unverified) (http://www.odenkirk.com/html/nti07476.htm in 2003) reports: "Degory Priest was one of the victims of religious persecution and fled to Leyden, Holland to be able to practice religion in a less hostile environment. He was married to Sarah, widow of John Vincent and sister of Isaac Allerton. Degory came over on the Mayflower in 1620 but died shortly after arrival in America. His widow married for the third time to Godbert Godbertson and came to America with him and her children by Degory Priest, Mary and Sarah, in the Ann in 1623. Degory had been admitted a citizen of Leyden, 16 November 1615, and was listed as a 'hatter'. The only other English friends of Degory to be awarded with this honor were Bradford and Allerton." It is probable that Degory Priest is the "Digorius Prust" baptized in Hartland, Devonshire, England on 11 August 1582, the son of Peter Prust. (New England Historic and Genealogical Register, 111:320). Degory Priest stated in a record in April 1619 in Leyden that he was 40 years old. See Robert S. Wakefield, "Mayflower Families for Five Generations: Degory Priest," volume 8 (Plymouth: General Society of Mayflower Descendants, 1994).

[21198] Sybil is daughter of Joseph Tisdale of Raynham, MA.
Her name is also found "Mullering" in Mrs. Alton Piper's letter, 1941. Also found "Mullinger". See the notes to Adam Piper, her husband. The surname as Zollinger is from Ronald L. Jackson (ronald.l.jackson@mindspring.com) in RootsWeb. Apparently Catharine is daughter of Peter Zollinger - Peggy Barbour Straughen shared via email 20 Dec 2001 (bpstraughen@dayton-online.net): "I have a copy of the will of Peter (different person from Nicholas) Zollinger {York Co., Pa.; Will Book H; pp.186-188; written 19 Dec 1790} in which he states "estate shall be equally divided amongst my six children ("which I had with my first wife"),.... Catharina, formerly intermarried with Adam Piper, deceased; Peter (who m. Barbara Magold); Veronica, intermarried with Daniel Ammer; Elisabeth, intermarried with Barnard Spangler; Ulrich; and John". Also mentioned is a step daughter, Elizabeth Yoe. He also calls the youngest child (John) Henry. Peter died 19 Dec 1790 [apparently a Private in the PA Militia during the War for Independence - see "Revolutionary War Graves Register," (Louisville: NSSAR, 1993), p. 672]. Several other bits of interest are: in the "Biograghical Annals of Franklin County", it states that 3 Zollinger brothers came to this country in 1754 to escape the troublesome times in Europe. One brother, John Nicholas Zollinger, married Barbara Miller of Lancaster Co. and settled near Harrisburg. Peter located in Fairfield, Adams Co. /// and later moved to Sabillasville, Frederick Co. MD where he is buried. This account says Peter married Barbara McC. Olden on 11 Dec 1730. However, upon reflection, I don't think the part after /// above could be true, because our Peter Zollinger died in Paradise Twp., York Co. Pa. Also, in Dauphin Co. (Harrisburg area) Will Abstract A-285, proven 23 May 1792: Jacob Zollinger, dod 08 Feb 1791; daughter, Loisa; eldest son, Nicholas; son, John, deceased; another son, John; son Nicholas; executors were sons, Nicholas and Jacob. This Jacob I would bet is a brother to my Peter and the Nicholas that you claim.
Catharine m. (2) John Snyder according to the petition of her son, Daniel, in Orphans Court (A:183). This petition, apparently in settlement of the estate of Adam, Sr., lists children: Adam, Peter, John, Daniel, Catherine (m. Samuel Long), Conrad, Elizabeth (m. Adam Snyder), Jacob, Fanny (m. Phil Fraker) and Polly. Peter Zollinger's will is reputed to be in Adams Co. Wills, p. 604."
Carolyn K. Shearer wrote in GenForum 1/2003: "Catherine Zollinger was probably not born in Amberson as the area was very, very sparsely settled by then. There are almost no German names on the early warrant lists. This is more likely your Catherine: York County Will Abstracts, F.Edward Wright: December 19, 1790 January 5, 1791 - Zollinger, Peter. Executor: Jacob Wiest. Paradise Township. Wife: Elizabeth Zollinger. Children: Catharine m Adam Pieper, Veronica m Daniel Ammer, Elizabeth m. Bernard Spangler, Ulrich, John, Henry and Peter. Step-daughter Elizabeth Yoe.

Harry Foreman's book "Conococheague Headwaters of Amberson Valley" (pg 108) also questions the date of settlement by Adam Piper. He says that 'exact proof of the date of settlement is still lacking.' He also writes that one of the earliest warrants was to Alexander Culbertson in 1755. He surely would have mentioned a warrant at least 13 years earlier. There is quite a bit of Piper information in this book. If you do not already have the pages, you can contact Kittochtinny Historical Society (175 E. King St, Chambersburg, 17201)- they will copy and send the pages for 20 cents per page - no charge for the research."
Sarah Cannon (theraesa@hotmail.com)shared via email 1 Sept 2003: "You have a Peter Zollinger in Adams County PA, Fairfield. ...Fairfield was known first as Millerstown, as the family that first founded it was the Miller family. There is a Peter Zollinger in Sabillasville Maryland which is very close to Fairfield. In fact Sabillasville was first called Zollinger Town after Peter, who was married to a Sevilla (Harbaugh). After Peter's death the town was renamed Sabillasville after his wife. I have been to the grave yard there in Sabillasville, and the tombstones are there for Peter Zollinger and Sevilla. Although they were moved here from their location on "Hill Field" Where the family cemetery was at first, so I do not think the actual graves are in Sabillasville, only the headstone. I do not know where Hill Field is. Harbaugh Valley Rd in Sabillasville goes to Fairfield Pa."
