Carleton's obituary: "Maine lost a true Gentleman on August 13, 2018. Carleton Irving Babe Brodie Jr., passed away unexpectedly at home in Lamoine. He was born April 14, 1938 in Lubec, the son of Carleton I. Brodie and Rita (Ingalls) Brodie.
Babe was raised in Lubec, America and graduated from Lubec H.S. He enlisted in the US Coast Guard after high school. After basic training, he spent many years shipping out to sea with the Coast Guard, to include a tour in Vietnam, before landing permanent shore duty in 1974. All totaled, Babe served for 30 years as a Radioman, retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer.
In 1966 Babe married the love of his life, Hubene (Worcester), and began a nearly 52 year journey creating countless memories and raising a family often referred to as the Brodie Bunch (3 girls and 3 boys). They spent many years in the greater Boston area and retired to the Town of Lamoine in 1986.
His retirement didnt last long. Babe went on to spend 19 years working for the US Postal Service based out of Ellsworth. He was a well-known face around town and is remembered fondly by those fortunate enough to have been waited on by him at the counter. He was also a proud member of the Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. When it came to firefighting, he referred to himself as a 'first floor man' as he was not a fan of heights. In later years, Babe and Hubene spent summers at their camp in Franklin on Georges Pond. There they would entertain the swarms of family and friends that would visit. No one was ever turned away. Babe was a family man through and through. He would do anything for his grandchildren and tried to attend all of their major events throughout New England and beyond. A close second to his love for his children and grandchildren was his love for his pets. He often held lengthy conversations with his pets and always seemed to know just what they were thinking. Babe had a tremendous passion for good food. All road trips were dictated by the food establishments that would be encountered on the journey. He was predeceased by his parents, Carleton I. Brodie and Rita (Ingalls) Brodie; sister, Sheila Knight; brother, Brian Brodie and son, Ralph Brodie. He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Hubene Worcester Brodie; sons, Carleton Brodie III and his wife, Cindy of Jacksonville FL, Hubert Brodie and his wife, Deanna of Thornton, NH; daughters, Debra Brodie of Bangor, Lynne Best of Marshfield, MA, and Julie Sattler and husband Jason of Hancock; 'adopted' son Paul Butler; grandchildren, Heather Brodie, John Brodie, Michael Best, Jennifer Best, Lisa Cash Mahan, Julie Best, Kristina Brodie, Haley Sattler and Hayden Sattler; great grandchildren, Alexus, Ryan, Camryn, Emily, King and Gabriel; devoted sisters, Patricia Archer and Brenda Bryant and her husband Larry; sister-in-law, Christine Brodie; Aunt, Fern Ingalls Kelly; and many nieces and nephews."
