"bapt. 19 Apr. 1592; probably named for his father's own cousin Gregory Stone...; when a young man removed to Nayland, co. Suffolk, whence he emigrated in 1635 to New England, and after a short stay in Watertown, Mass., settled in Cambridge, Mass. For account of him and his descendants, see Part II of `The Gregory Stone Genealogy,' published in 1918." - "Simon Stone Genealogy...," J. Gardner Bartlett (Boston, 1926), p. 39. Gregory and his brother Simon are commemorated by their American descendants by a stained glass window and plaque in the Great Bromley Church in which both were baptised. Kristin Bush (mantra@iamerica.net) wrote via Internet 25 April 1998: The Gregory Stone Genealogy by J. Gardner Bartlett traces Stone back to 1320 in Great Bromely, Essex Co. England. Here is a somewhat brief look. Walter atte Stone b. ~1320 >Simon b. 1450 d. 1506 m. Elizabeth >David Stone of Great Bromely b. 1480 >Simon Stone of Great Bromely b. 1507 will 1557 m. Agnes >Richard of Great Bromely b. 1545 m. Ursula >Gregory b. 1592. Gregory went to America with his brother Simon. Richard and Ursula had 4 children Simon b. 1585, Ursula b. 1588, Mary b. 1590, and Gregory. Richard had 7 children with his first wife Elizabeth Hewitt. Gregory married Margaret Garrad in Nayland in 1635. His brother Simon sailed to the New World on the ship Increase in 1635. Gregory folowed with his second wife Lydia and Children John, Daniel, David, Elizabeth, Samuel and Sarah plus step-children John and Lydia Cooper. They settled in Watertown Mass. He then moved to Newtowne (Cambridge). Gregory was active in the Puritan protests in England; known as a nonconformist he was reprimanded for refusing to kneel before the Archdeaconry of Sudbury. As of 1913, the Stone house was being historically preserved as a permanent example of early New England archetecture. The home was on Linnaen street in Cambridge and the Stone Association had placed an engraved tablet as a tribute to Deacon Gregory. The last stanza on the tablet reads: "Gregory Stone.... The founder of this house - Lived in the homestead hard by on land now of Harvard University - Died November 30, 1672 - Buried in the Cambridge Graveyard - Forefather of a cloud of witnesses who on the stricken grounds of the revolution made good his word." Cf. "Descendants of Daniel Stone of Dorchester, Mass., Waterman Stone, NEHGR (1882) 36:366. Gregory's will is printed in NEHGR (1854) 8:69-70. [16564] Abishag m. ca. 1661 Robert Taprill (d. Nov 1678) and r. Boston, MA in 1672. Robert Taprill was Captain of the "pinkey" "Hopewell" in 1676 and the ketch "Providence" when he died. His father may be Alexander Waldron as proposed by Jim Walton who offered in Sept 2011: "See my article in The New Hampshire Genealogical Record, Vol 27, Nos. 3-4, July/October 2010, 'Who Was Alice, Wife of George Walton?' . . . Another thing you might find interesting in my article is the references to Alexander Waldron. I am of the belief that he was the father of Abishag based on his concern for the child, and the statements she made when told she should make a will (NHSP v31, Probate v1, pp 230-1). I also searched the Waldron/Walderne family and could not find any reference that would connect her with that family. There is a lot of evidence that his brothers did not share in his concern, and there seemed to be constant bad blood between George and the Waldrons. This is speculation right now, but I am still researching the possibilities."
[33817] Find A Grave memorial 42246379 offers: "Sidney Wilson, daughter of Richard and Catherine (Strouse) Wilson, was born on March 1, 1814. She became the second wife of Jacob Groninger. Sidney and Jacob produced nine children for a total for Jacob of seventeen, eleven sons and 6 daughters. The children were: Hannah Jane, Richard Wilson, Samuel A., William Heim, Benjamin Creamer, Euphemia C., James N. and Matilda S.. Sidney died on July 3, 1891, while Jacob died the next month, having lived for 94 years, 5 months and 20 days. Prior to his passing on August 26, 1891 Jacob was the oldest person in Juniata County. (Information found in the Port Royal 200th Anniversary website.) [Contributed by Leo Shelley]"
[57185] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 9 September 2015: "Winthrop - Doris Evelyn Laskey died at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, on Sept. 7, 2015 at the age of 87. She was born July 24, 1928 in South Corning, NY, the daughter of Silas and Arlena (Thompson) Wolverton. Doris graduated from Painted Post High School, New York in June 1946. She attended Corning, NY Secretarial School and then was employed as an executive secretary with Corning Glass Works. She married Henry Laskey on August 14, 1954 while he was employed as an engineer at Ingersoll-Rand Compressor Co. in Painted Post. In April 1955, they moved to Henry's home town of Old Town, Maine, where he was employed as an engineer at a pulp mill. Doris was very active in the Baptist churches, of which she was a member, and where she acted as deaconess, Sunday School teacher, a worker in Pioneer Girls Christian Organization, and where she also assisted Henry in high school youth groups. She loved flowers and had flowers planted on all sides of her house in Winthrop. She was very tender- hearted and always careful for the needs of her extended family and friends. Doris will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Doris is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Henry Laskey, of Winthrop; four sons, Samual H. & wife, Polly, of Mexico, David W. & wife, Laurie, of Topsham, Timothy S. of Windham and Mark A. & wife, Susan, of Gray; five grandsons, two granddaughters, two great granddaughters and one great grandson. Survivors on the Wolverton side include Doris' brother Richard Wolverton & wife, Patricia, of Benton, NY, and their children and grandchildren and her sister Lucille Gorton & husband, Keith, of Painted Post, NY, and their children and grandchildren, as well as many cousins in New York State."
