James Scruggs posting of a message board in Ancestry.com in 2000 offers: "While still a toddler, Wm B., Jr's father moved the family to Jefferson County, Florida where he became fulltime pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. It was here that Wm B., Jr received his early religious training while growing to adulthood on the family's two farms, one just across the Aucilla River in Madison County, and the other only a stone's throw from the church. Only glimpse'es of this time has been revealed through letters between his sister Maggie and a maternal aunt Eliza Irvine Robarts in White Springs, Hamilton County, Florida; reference to Wm B., Jr being only that he was farming at about age 18-19.
They were parents of eight children, all born in Texas: Alberta Francis (dau): b. Nov 1876 ; Willie T.( son): b. Aug 1880; Jennie (dau): b. Nov 1883; Nellie B.(dau): b. Jun 1886; Charles E. (son): b. Jul 1888,d. 1914; James B.(son): b. Aug 1891; Bessie A.(dau): b. Jun 1893; & Leslie B.(son): b. Aug 1899.
------------------------------------------------------------
Due to the failure to locate any descendants of the Wm B./Janetta union, little has been learned of the family's later history except through the census, and two personal letters written in early-1885. The 1880 census shows him as a farmer; the first letter, from "Willie" to his younger brother Edwin in Tampa, Florida, told of his father-in-law dying, having heard recently from their sister Maggie, having heard from their cousin Sallie (Jones) Smith living in Clebourne, Johnson Co, TX, telling of his cows and crops, and giving glowing reports on the area (probably meaning he was lonely for family!); the second letter, written by his brother-in-law Richard Scruggs to Jennie Beville telling of the death of his wife Maggie (their sister), also told of getting a recent letter from "Willie" at address "Gentry's Mill, Hamilton Co, TX" reporting that "they were fine, had three children living, one boy and two girls, one in school" (which could translate to prior loss of a child, possibly between the first and second).
Willie and Nettie's final resting places are in the Toliver Cemetery, Lamkin, Comanche Co, TX along with their son Charlie. Their tombstone inscriptions read as follows: "Charles E. Cooper//1888-1914"; "Mrs W. B. Cooper//Aug 1862//Sept 25, 1921" and "W.B. Cooper//Aug 28, 1850//July 20 1934".
