[17240] Ancestry.com offers: "Alexander Name Meaning - Scottish, English, German, Dutch; also found in many other cultures: from the personal name Alexander, classical Greek Alexandros, which probably originally meant 'repulser of men (i.e. of the enemy)', from alexein 'to repel' + andros, genitive of aner 'man'. Its popularity in the Middle Ages was due mainly to the Macedonian conqueror, Alexander the Great (356-323 bc) - or rather to the hero of the mythical versions of his exploits that gained currency in the so-called Alexander Romances. The name was also borne by various early Christian saints, including a patriarch of Alexandria (ad c.250-326), whose main achievement was condemning the Arian heresy. The Gaelic form of the personal name is Alasdair, which has given rise to a number of Scottish and Irish patronymic surnames, for example McAllister. Alexander is a common forename in Scotland, often representing an Anglicized form of the Gaelic name."

[56047] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 3 March 2024: "Hermon - Sandra Marie Martin Sanders, 76, of Hermon, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 22, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer. Sandra was born in Old Town, Maine, on January 23, 1948, and was the daughter of Frances Ellen Boyington McLaughlin of Milford, and Donald Herbert Martin of Old Town. Sandra grew up in Bradley and Bangor, attending Bangor High School. She met her devoted husband and love of her life, Jerry, when he was stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor. They were married February 2, 1965, and just celebrated 59 years. Jerry's service in the military took them several places throughout their marriage to include North Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Panama. Following her husband's military career they lived in Bangor, ME, Greenville, SC, Charlotte, NC, Mooresville, NC, and finally retiring in Hermon, ME. Sandra worked most of her career in office administration, to include Social Security Administration in Jackson, MS, and Bangor, ME, and Greenville Memorial Hospital and Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Sandy was incredibly active, she enjoyed many things to include working tirelessly in her flower gardens, landscaping and decorating her home for every season. She enjoyed rides in the convertible with her husband to sites all over the state, sometimes following along on family bike rides. She served on her church's decorating committee for many years and also worked with her husband landscaping the church grounds as well. Sandy greatly possessed the gift of helps, always eager to jump in and help anyone in any way that she could, from helping her husband build a rock wall or fix the lawn mower, to helping someone move or preparing a meal for others. Sandy was also a lifelong student, always looking to better herself and learn whatever she could. She thoroughly enjoyed participating in many Bible courses, always striving for the perfect score, along with Evangelism Explosion. Sandy's number one goal in life was to see others come to Christ and accept Him as their Savior. She spoke often of when she became a Christian, expressing that she never knew prior that you could have a personal relationship with Him. She mostly wanted to see all of her family in heaven with her someday. Sandy will always be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her servant's heart, and for her unending love for her family, friends and people in general. Surviving is husband, Jerry Dean Sanders; daughter, Brenda Marie Sanders Cole of Hermon; son, Michael Allen Sanders and girlfriend, Sally Brooker, of Levant; son, Jeffrey Wayne Sanders and girlfriend, Joy Felton, of Bend, Oregon; grandson and wife, Anthony and Laura Cole, and great-grandchildren, Liam, Alister and Elle; grandson, Colby Cole; sister and husband, Susan and Robert McPherson of Bend, Oregon; brother and wife, Robert and Ida Martin of Dedham; sister-in-law and husband, Wanda and Bill Busic of Piney Creek, NC; half siblings, Timothy Martin of Ludington, MI, Deborah Martin of Brunswick, and Lyndal Martin of Topsham; many nieces and nephews.
