(Pop) Means, a former resident of Oxnard and father of Orville G. Means of Oxnard, died Tuesday at the home of a daughter In Norwalk. He had been ill since December. Mr. Means, born June 9, 1880, in St. Joseph, Mo., came to Oxnard in 1936. After working at the American Crystal Sugar factory for several years, he started his own business as a paint contractor. He retired five years ago and moved to Julian, Calif. He leaves his wife, Mattie of Julian; four daughters, Mrs. Leonard Smith of Norwalk, Mrs. Irma Crimm and Mrs. Jean Crow, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mrs. Lynn Porter of San Francisco; three sons Austin Means of Wilmington, Harold of Salinas and Orville of Oxnard; four sisters, Mrs. M. J. Silva of Long Beach, Mrs. Georgia Kearney of Concord, Mrs. Frances Newman of Albuquerque, N. Mex., and Mrs. Bird Muns of Modesto; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. J. Marion Smith at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Diffenderfer-Alhiser mortuary. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn."
