[34623] "The Perry County Democrat, 23 November 1927," p. 3: "Thomas W. Tressler, Perry county's veteran schoolteacher, died at his home at Wila on Monday, following a long illness from internal cancer; however, he was confined to bed only about a month preceding his death. He was aged 79 years, 2 months and 1 day. Mr. Tressler was a son of Mr. and Mrs., Samuel Tressler, deceased. He was the last of his family. His wife's name was Miss Louisa Toomey. She died ten years ago. Their surviving children are Mary (Mrs. W. G. Heighes), Paxtang; C. E. Tressler, Juniata township; Bernard Tressler, Illinois; Grace (Mrs. Frank Britcher), Middle Ridge; Delbert, Juniata township; Horace, New Castle, and Harry, Greensburg. Two daughters and a son are dead, namely, Amy (Mrs. N. B. Gabel, Floy (Mrs. T. J. Owen), and William Clarence Tressler. He was an uncle of John W., Elmer H., and David A. Tressler, of this place. Mr. TressleR taught school for over fifty years, having retired only a few years ago, and was recognized as one of the county's best teachers. He never missed a county teachers' institute and in former years took an active part in the proceedings. He was a member of the Evangelical Church and for many years was the superintendent of the Milford Sunday School, and also represented Perry county as a delegate to National and State Sunday School conventions. In politics Mr. Tressler was a Republican and was a candidate for the nomination for Associate Judge in 1911. He served as Justice of the Peace of Juniata township for years. In every particular Mr. Tressler was a model man and a good citizen. His death will be mourned by many, as he was widely known and highly respected."
