[327] Robert came to America on "Recovery of London," leaving England 31 March 1633, Gabriel Cornish, master. Robert resided at Dorchester, MA in 1634, then at Salem soon after becoming a freeman in 1640; he owned land at Gloucester in 1642; was a member of the Salem Church in the 1640s; was a selectman at Gloucester in 1648 and later; was member of a committee to erect a new "meeting house" in Gloucester in 1664. {-"Elwelliana - Memorabilia of Levi Henry Elwell, 1854-1916," by Elizabeth Starr Versailles, Williamsburg, Mass.: 1974; "The Elwell Family in America," revised by Charles Henry Pope, 1906} The Elwell surname is English, and mostly appears in the county of Dorset. Robert m. (2) Alice Leach (she died 10 April 1691). Except for Isaac, the children given here are not verified and are from A. J. Oxton, Box 144, Centre Conway, NH, 11/95 via Internet. He married Octilla Sheets and they had 11 children together. He then married Elizabeth Jane Smith and they had one daughter together. He died on February 27, 1888, having lived a long life of 78 years, and was buried in Logan, Ohio. Octilla Sheets was born on May 11, 1809, in Berks, Pennsylvania. She married Samuel M. Leymaster on December 26, 1827, in her hometown. . . . She died on November 23, 1857, at the age of 48.
