[55873] Joan's obituary: "Bucksport- Joan A. Bridges gracefully entered into rest on December 24, 2020. She was born in Bucksport on August 17, 1933, the daughter of Raymond and Edith (Arey) Atwood. Joan was educated in Bucksport where she met and married her husband, Raymond, and they went on to raise a large, loving family. She spent countless hours preparing winter food from the gardens that Ray grew and that were tended to by their children. Later, she and Ray owned and operated Rays Farm Market in Millvale, where she made lasting friendships due in part to her delicious pizza. While raising her family, Joan went on to work at the Sylvania Plant in Bangor. Later, she worked as a deli manager at Dougs Shop N Save. In later years, she very much enjoyed playing Poker and Bingo at the Senior Center, where she served for a while as a lunch waitress, endearing herself to everyone she met there. Joan later found comfort in watching the birds outside her window where she spent most of her time. Though Joan could have a 'feisty' side her love for her children and grandchildren was unmovable always. She is survived by her sons, Brian, Larry (and Judy) and Raymond and her daughters Joan (and Lloyd), Tina (and Robert) and Lesa. She leaves many adored grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their special Aunt Jode. She is also survived by three brothers Ernest, Fred, and Wilford: and sisters-in-law Thiry and Shirley and soul mate sister-in-law Irene. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Ray, her daughter, Lindy, and her granddaughter, Corinne. She was left behind also by five sisters, Ruth, Shirley, Barbara Edith and Yvonne, brothers Herbert and Bud. Joan will be remembered as an image of love by her family and by all who were fortunate to know this remarkable loving woman. A memorial service will be held in the spring."

[22321] Ray Gurganus' unverified web site, www.gurganus.org, in 2007 proposes a generation between William and Pierre I - namely Amadeus de Grandison (b. 1229 in Switzerland, d. 1300) and his wife Banoile de lat Tour (b. 1231 in Swsitzerland). http://findagrave.com offers these remarks in association with his grave location: "William de Grandison, of Ashperton, Herefordshire, and younger brother of Otes de Grandison, was in the service of Edmund, Earl of Lancaster. On 4 Nov 1288 he had letters of protection when remaining in Wales in order to fortify the castle of Carnarvon, and was still there 6 Nov 1289, taking the place of his brother, Otes de Grandison. On 3 May 1292 he had license to strengthen his house of Ashperton with a wall of stone and lime and to crenelate it. He was excepted from military service in Gascony in 1294, in which year he appears as governor of Jersey and Guernsey for his brother. He was summoned to Carlisle for Military Service 26 September (1298) and various Councils from 7 May 1299 to 21 March 1332/3. He was present at the siege of Carlaverock in July 1300. He was summoned to the Coronation of Edward II, 18 January 1307/8. On 23 February 1309/10 he had letters of protection on going beyond the seas. He was again summoned for Military Service in 1322, he did not attend the muster, and his lands were seized; but the absence being due to severe illness, license was given him to remain at home for the more speedy restoration of his health, provided that he sent at least 6 men-at-arms for the expedition. He had letters of protection going to Ireland 16 June 1327, and on 20 September 1329 had respite of homage till Easter, as the King had learned that he was so infirm and aged that he was unable to come. He was, however, summoned, 12 July 1332, to be with the King at Michaelmas and take passage to Ireland on the expedition there. He married, in or before 1285, Sibyl, younger daughter and coheir of Sir John Tregoz, of Ewyas Harold, &c. Lord of Tregoz, by his 1st wife, Mabel, daughter of Sir Fulk Fitz Warine. On 26 November 1300 it was ordered that the lands of Sir John Tregoz should be divided between William de Grandison and his wife and the other coheir, they having done homage. The partition took place 21 Dec 1300 by mutual assent, but, after petitions concerning the knights' fees of Ewyas Harold, a final partition was made 29 October 1302. His wife died 21 October 1334, and was buried at Dore Abbey. He died 27 June 1335. William and Sybil had two daughters Agnes and Catherine."

[50053] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 14 February 2020": "LaNeta Elinor Rice Phaneuf, age 83, died peacefully on Feb. 12, 2020, at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. She was born in Birch Harbor to Malcolm and Judith (Dyer) Rice on Sep. 25, 1936. She attended Winter Harbor High School for three years and was a member of the first graduating class of Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan in June 1953. In August 1957, Neta met her best friend and soul mate, CT David Phaneuf, who was stationed at NSGA Winter Harbor Naval base. They were married in December of 1957, and in early January 1959, their first child, daughter Pam, was born before they started moving every two to three years for his Naval career. The tours of duty included Kami Saya, Japan, where her sons, Tony and Mike, were born in 1962 and 1963. At the time of Daves Navy retirement in June 1975, the family moved back to Gouldsboro where Neta and Dave lived in their home for 42 years before he was moved in January 2017 to the Maine Vets Home in Machias due to his condition with Alzheimers. When Neta moved to East Point Assisted Living (also in Machias) in February 2017, Dave joined her there and they were together until his death in January 2018. Along with the many Navy career moves, they continued to travel the world after his retirement from teaching and being principal of Lamoine Grammar School. They returned many times to visit very dear friends in Scotland and also to visit the Orkney and Hebrides islands, England, Ireland and Wales. They were lucky enough to travel to Australia and New Zealand, Puerto Rico, many of the Canadian Provinces and to enjoy a cruise to Alaska. For many years, they were 'snow birds' and spent the winter months in the Cocoa Beach area of Florida, but returned each spring back to Maine. Neta kept (many) a travel journal - they had driven through and had slept in all 50 of the United States. In addition to their travels, they loved to spend time at their camp on Jones Pond in Gouldsboro. Neta is survived by her only brother, Mike Rice (wife Sharon) of Cocoa Bay, Fla.; her daughter, Pam Linscott and husband Jeff of Gouldsboro; her oldest son, Tony and wife Chris of Hibbing, Minn., and younger son, Mike and wife Michelle of Opelika, Ala. She has seven adored grandchildren - Ryan, Ashley (husband David), Kelsey (husband Stephen), Lexie, Zach, Olivia and Madie and four very precious great-grandchildren (Zack Henry, Sarah, Thomas and Marcus). She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Dave and her sisters Maxine Carrier and Sylvia Green. She also leaves behind many wonderful Navy friends worldwide along with very special family and friends in Maine and many nieces and nephews all over the United States."
