Nathan's obituary: "Addison - Nathan Dale Norton, 75, passed away on February 8, 2019 at his home with his children by his side. He was born on February 7, 1944 in Addison, the son of Carlton and Verna (Day) Norton.
Nathan (Buzz) Norton was a lifelong carpenter and builder, a trade he passed on to his son, Eric and his grandson, Joshua. During his life he also owned a restaurant and car dealership. Nathan later retired and became a blueberry farmer. He was well known for his strong work ethic and sheer will to succeed. Nathan joined the Mason Lodge in 1973 and the Shriners in 1974. He enjoyed summers at Schoodic Lake, hunting, fishing, and entertaining family and friends with his cooking. Nathan is predeceased by his wife, Ann, of 54 years. He is survived by his son, Eric Norton of Leominster, Massachusetts and family; his daughter, Lisa (Norton) Lutes of Columbia, and family; his stepdaughter, Debbie (Choate) Skeate of Columbia, and family; and his stepdaughter, Valorie (Parritt) Geel, of Columbia, and family. Nathan is survived by his sister, Betty Peabody, of Addison and his sister, Jacklin Emerson, of Addison. He is predeceased by his sister, Glennis Emerson, of Jonesport, Maine."
[24221] Anna is daughter of Joseph Porter (b. by 9 Sept 1643 in Salem, MA, d. 14 Dec 1714 in Salem, son of Sgt. John Porter and Mary _____) and Anna Hathorne (b. 12 Dec 1643 in Salem, d. by 1714, daughter of Major William Hathorne and Ann _____). See "Massachusets Bay Connections," Judy Jacobson (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1992), p. 94. Ancestry.com offers: "Porter Name Meaning - English and Scottish: occupational name for the gatekeeper of a walled town or city, or the doorkeeper of a great house, castle, or monastery, from Middle English porter 'doorkeeper', 'gatekeeper' (Old French portier). The office often came with accommodation, lands, and other privileges for the bearer, and in some cases was hereditary, especially in the case of a royal castle. As an American surname, this has absorbed cognates and equivalents in other European languages, for example German Pförtner (see Fortner) and North German Poertner. English: occupational name for a man who carried loads for a living, especially one who used his own muscle power rather than a beast of burden or a wheeled vehicle. This sense is from Old French porteo(u)r (Late Latin portator, from portare 'to carry or convey'). Dutch: occupational name from Middle Dutch portere 'doorkeeper'. Compare 1. Dutch: status name for a freeman (burgher) of a seaport, Middle Dutch portere, modern Dutch poorter."
