[16951] Anna is daughter of Joseph Lowell, Jr. and Mary Jones. The descendants of Anna and Joshua are detailed in "The Grindle Family of Hancock County, Maine" (1978), Part II; they had ten children, all registered at Sedgwick, ME - Anna and Joshua r. on the western side of the Bagaduce River (estuary) in North Brooksville (then part of Sedgwick). Joshua was taken prisoner by the British and held captive in Castine (1779).

She was a member of the Elm Street Congregational Church, Riverview Rebekahs, and the Retired Teachers Association. She attended EMCS and graduated from Castine Normal School. She was principal of the Luman-Warreen School in Bucksport and taught school in several towns throughout the state. She is survived by several cousins."

She was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Isaac and Dicki Fish Vernon. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri/Columbia, then her master's degree from Colorado University/Boulder, later receiving her doctorate in Nursing from Texas Women's University. She had helped to start many nursing programs, including at Butler County Community College/ El Dorado and St. John's College/Winfield. Later she taught nursing at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo and Pueblo Community College. Survivors include a son, Max of Pueblo; sister, Patricia Derrig; niece, Marilynn Huff; nephew, Robert Kirkhuff; and numerous other nephews and nieces.
