[48870] Arthur's obituary: "Arthur Amedee Price, 94, of South Portland, died Monday, July 9, 2007, at a local hospital. He was born in Danvers, Mass., on April 22, 1913, the son of Hollis Mills Price, and Anna Melanson Price. He moved to this area as a young child, and attended schools in Portland and South Portland. Mr. Price joined the Naval Reserves at the age of 18, and served for 37 years. During WWII he was stationed aboard the troop ship U.S.S. West Point for 32 months, and sailed around the world four times during that period. He was then stationed aboard the cruiser U.S.S. Springfield when it sailed into Tokyo Bay with the U.S.S. Missouri in August, 1945. Mr. Price also served aboard the U.S.S. Tills and spent 10 months in Cuba during the Berlin Crisis. On March 22, 1941, Arthur married Madaline Edith Haynes of Northeast Harbor. He worked in the freight industry for 40 years, and had been employed by Chase Transfer, Merrill Transport, Haynes Express, and Hallamore Trucking. He was a retired member of Teamster Local #340, and was a retired member of its bowling team. He was also a member of the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation; Fleet Reserve #344; the Maine Charitable Foundation; the U.S.S. West Point Reunion Assoc.; and the U.S.S. Springfield Bluejackets, Inc. Arthur was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles Price, Kenneth Price, and Harold Price. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Madaline Haynes Price of South Portland; two daughters, M. Patricia Esposito and her husband Neil of Portland, and Suzanne J. Norton and her husband Terry of South Portland; a son, Arthur A. Price Jr. and his wife Anita of Scarborough; a sister, Phyllis M. Price of Portland; a brother, Richard Price of Portland; eight grandchildren, Kate Bryant, Lisa Walsh, John Anderson, Melissa Saucier, Jennifer Price, Michael Price, Jessica Price, and Michaela Price; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews."

[49125] "Dr. Samuel Schoppee Silsby, 57, prominent Bangor orthopedic surgeon, died Sunday morning at a local hospital of a coronary occlusion following a week's illness. Dr. Silsby was born in Aurora October 18, 1898, the son of Herbert Trafton Silsby and Margaret (Schoppee) Silsby. He was graduated from Bangor High school in 1919 and attended the University of Maine and was graduated from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, in the class of 1926 with a MDCM degree. Dr. Silsby, a member of the staff of the Eastern Maine General Hospital, has practiced medicine and orthopedic surgery in Bangor for 30 years. He was a member of the American College of surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Maine Medical Association, the Penobscot Association of which he was a past president, and the Boston Orthopedic Club. He was a surgeon of the Reserve of the United States Public Health Service. From 1942 to 1945 he was an instructor in Military Postgraduate Medical Courses at Dow AFB. He was also a member of Lygonia Lodge, F. and A. M., of Ellsworth, Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of Maine, and Nu Sigma Nu Fraternity at McGill. He is survived by his wife, the former Ella Mae Shorey of Enfield; by five sons, Samuel S. Silsby, Jr., James Allan Silsby, David Shorey Silsby, Carl Trafton Silsby and Paul Steven Silsby, all of Bangor; by two brothers, William Sands Silsby of Ellsworth and Dr. Charles Selden Silsby of Bangor; and by three sisters, Mrs. Adelbert E. Bridges and Mrs. Leslie F. Burrill of Bangor, and Miss Alice Silsby of Aurora. Two grandchildren also survive."
