[22859] The wife of James Cudworth requires verification. Many researchers identify her as Mary Sarah Goodman, but other names are suggested as well. The information here is from the unverified file in Ancestry.com. Her memorial in www.findarave.com # 37543465 states: "James Cudworth, Sr. married Mary Parker in Northam, Devonshire, England, 1 Feb 1633/4. While there is no direct evidence that this is the marriage record of the son of Rev. Ralph Cudworth who came to Plymouth Colony in 1634, the timing is ideal, relative to both James' sailing and the birth of his 1st child. Northam is close to Barnstaple & there is no other 'Cudworth' record in the Northam parish register. James Sr. wrote in 1673: 'My wife, as is well known unto the whole town, is not only a weak woman, but has so been all along, and now by reason of age, being sixty-seven years and upward and nature decaying, so her illness grows strongly upon her.' She died before 15 Sep 1681, as she is not named in her husband's will."

[9825] "The Winchester Star, 4 March 1910": "Joseph M. Wert, son of Samuel and Lydia A. Wert, was born at Carlisle Springs, Cumberland Co., Pa., April 13, 1857 and departed this life Feb. 26, 1910, aged 52 years 10 months and 13 days. He came to Ohio in 1877, where he remained until the spring of 1878. Then he spent a few months in Decatur Ill., coming from there to Winchester, Kans., which became his home and remained so until his death. He was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Ludt of Blowsorville, Pa., at Leavenworth, Kans., on May 12, 1887. Two children were born to this union, both dying in infancy. Besides his wife he leaves an aged mother, 2 brothers and a sister. Also many friends, but the sorest loss of all will fall upon the widow who must go the rest of her way in a sense alone. We commend kindly thoughts and comfort for her in the days to come. Mr. Wert engaged in the butchering business after coming to Winchester and continued in the same until his death, where he had a well equipped plant and many other interests, all of which show his business ability and integrity. As a neighbor and friend of rich and poor alike, Mr. Wert was unsurpassed in his sympathy and generosity and kindness. He had been a member of the city council, a prominent citizen, a public spirited man. The funeral took place from the residence on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. C. E. Holcombe of Topeka. All business in the city was suspended at this hour. And the high esteem in which he was held in his own community was attested by the large number of people attending, and by the feeling of sorrow expressed by friends and neighbors. Those from a distance attending the funeral were: J. F. Ludt, Kingston, Pa., D. A. Ludt, Carlisle, Pa., J. D. Wert, Carlisle, Pa., Miss Mabel Smith, Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Briner and Mr. and Mrs. Eli Briner, Oskaloosa, Mrs. Mary Hinchman, Mr. and Mrs. John Ackley, Nortonville, and Rev. and Mrs. Holcombe, Topeka.
