[8684] "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, PA], 21 January 1925," p. 3: "Elliottsburg, Jan. 19. Elmer Ellsworth Briner, one of our most prosperous and highly respected citizens, died at his home, one-half mile north of town, on last Wednesday afternoon at 12.15 o'clock. He was ill for about five weeks, his death being caused by intercostial neuralgia of the heart and jaundice. He was a consistent member of the Reformed Church, a charter member of W. C. No. 487, P. O. S. of A., of this place, a member of the I. O.O. F., No. 172, of Landishurg, and director in the First National Bank of New Bloomfield, having been re-elected a few days before his death. He was the oldest son of Solomon and Mary Anna (Kiner) Briner and is survived by his wife and two children, Florence Ebert Briner and G. Edward Briner; also two grandchildren, Sara and Ralph Briner; also one sister, Miss Margaret Briner, of Loysville, and two brothers, Newton J., of Greenpark, and Edward G., of Loysville. On June 2nd, 1887, he was united in marriage to Annie Catherine Bitter. He was born October 22nd, 1861, therefore being aged 63 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was a hard-working man up until his sickness, when he suffered intense pain at the heart, which he bore without a murmur. He had lived on his farm for 30 years. He had a kind and gentle disposition, which won him many friends who will sadly miss him."
