[24580] John Jacob Fisher is son of Sebastian (Johannes) Fisher (b. ca. 1659 in Aldenborn, Palatinate, Germany, d. ca. 1760 there, son of Hans Jacob Fischer and Margaret Feer) and Susannah Ulrich (b. ca. 1685 in Germany). The Selinsgrove Times-Tribune, 01 Aug 1940, p. 3: Fisher Reunion to Be Held Saturday Ancestors of Clan Were Owners of Vast Land Holdings in Vicinity of Selinsgrove. Descendants of John Jacob Fisher will meet in thirty -second annual reunion in Rolling Green Park, Saturday. John Jacob Fisher, 1720-1803, was the son of Sebastian Fisher, born in Germany In 1685. Sebastian Fisher and his family were among the Palatines invited to England by Queen Anne in 1709. His family sailed to England in 1710 and later that year were shipped by England to America. They landed at New York, June 14, 1710. Sebastian Fisher and his fellow Palatines lived in various parts of New York State following their arrival in this country. In 1723. however, the Fisher family migrated down the Susquehanna Valley to Swatara Creek, descended down the creek to the Tulpehocken Valley between Myerstown and Womelsdorf. Sebastian was the father of numerous children, but the names of only three are known. Peter, a son, lived and died In New York; Ann Elizabeth, wife of John Anspach, resided in Tulpehocken Valley, and John Jacob, ancestor of the Fishers In this section. In 1771. John Jacob Fisher came to the Isle of Que with Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg, a Lutheran missionary, to examine the land purchased on the Isle from the missionary's father, the Rev. Dr. Henry Melcore Muhlenberg. This latter man was married to a daughter of Conrad Weiser, and thus fell heir to a share of the vast land holdings of that illustrious pioneer settler. In the spring of 1774, John Jacob and his wife and his son, John Adam, and his wife, settled on the Isle of Que. During the Indian uprisings in 1778, John Jacob returned to the Tulpehocken Valley and remained there the balance of his life. John Adam, however, continued to reside here until his death in 1825. John Jacob Fisher, during the Revolutionary War, was one of a committee of two men in the Tulpehocken who were assigned to look after the welfare of soldiers' families. John Adam Fisher served in the Northumberland County Militia and Rangers in the war, and two brothers, John and Christian, were militiamen with the Berks county unit. John Adam Fisher, who continued his residence here, was the father of nine sons and one daughter, most of whom were born on the Fisher land on the lower end of the Isle of Que. The original Fisher home here was a log hut, situated midway between the lower and upper George W. Rockwell farms. The brick house which was the residence of the late Oliver Fisher was the home of one of Adam's sons, as was the stone residence to the north. The Fishers became owners of much land here, and their holdings were probably exceeded only by those of Conrad Weiser. In John Adam Fisher's will, he parceled his land among his survivors. He was the owner of farming land in the southern end of the Isle of Que and along the northern bank of Middle Creek to the old Iron bridge at Neitz' Valley. Dr. George F. Dunkelberger, member of the Susquehanna University faculty, will be the principal speaker at the family reunion Saturday. Dr. John I. Woodruff will give a memorial address for members of the clan who died during the year. A committee meeting will be held at 11:30 A. M. In the park theatre, where the program will be held beginning at 1:30 P. M. A sports program will begin at 3 P. M. Dr. Harry G. Romig, missionary in China, is president of the clan. Dr. George E. Fisher, of Selinsgrove, is president; C. Boyd Fisher, of Williamsport, vice president; Mrs. John I. Fisher, of Selinsgrove, secretary-treasurer; Dr. Charles A. Fisher, of Selinsgrove, historian and corresponding secretary; Mrs. William Fisher Schrey, of R. R, Sellnsgrove, statistician.
