Gray and Walter S. Snow, "The Gray Family of Hancock Co., ME" (2nd Edition, 1987), give his birth as 1791 (p. 109). Grace Limeburner ("The Folks of Majorbugwaduce" typescript at Bangor Library, p. 243) reports the marriage of Adam McCaslin and Mary Stevens was published 7 June 1812. A file in GenServ states Adam "married 27 May 1837, Judith Black, born 6 Oct 1802 at Sedgwick, Maine, died 20 Jun 1886, buried in Castine Village Cemetery, daughter of Samuel Black and Rebecca Annis." Find A Grave memorial 101758386 states his wife was Judith Staples (1802-1886).

He was a grandson of Paternus who had been appointed, probably by Valentinian, to rule the Votandini of the north-east coast, between Tyne and Forth. ...he is one of the first persons in authority in Britain who were known only by a personal name. His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather had all borne normal Roman names, and are given an origin among the cultured Romans of the south." He conquered Wales, migrating from his base in northern England where the Roman forces under Vortigern, based in York, moved in to fill the void. {-"The Age of Arthur," John Morris (Scribner's, 1973, p.66)} A Roman officer by birth, he is called "The Great".
