Mary Cline (who m. William's brother Isaac) & Esther Matilda Cline are the daughters of David Cline (b. 1806 in VA to Michael B. Kline & Ann E. Byerly, d. 15 Feb 1872) & Malinda Sollars (b. 1809 to Ignatius Sollars, d. after 1880 in IA, m. 29 Dec 1825 in Ross Co., OH).
------
Esther Cline's obituary:
Mrs. William H. Paullin, a pionerr [pioneer] resident of Madison county, died at her home here last Thursday after an illness of three weeks. She was 80 years old. Last June, she and her husband had celebrated their golden wedding anniversay.
rs. Paullin was born Esther Cline in Louisa county, Iowa, on February 25, 1854. As a child she came with her parents to this county and settled in Douglas township. On June 10, 1874, she was married to W. H. Paullin, and they were the parents of eight children, five of whom survive.
Funeral services were held at the First M. E. church in Winterset on August 12, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. L. H. Lanning was in charge. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
On June 10, 1874, she was united in marriage with William H. Paullin. To this union eight children were born. Two of them died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Clark, died at the age of forty-five. Mr. and Mrs. Paullin celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on June 10th last.
Mrs. Paullin was a member of the Winterset Methodist Episcopal church for over thirty years and was ever devoted to the services of the church and the spread of the gospel. She was a member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, and was an ardent worker in the cause of temperance, having a certificate of Life Patron in the Union, bearing the date of 1927. She was a member of the Woman's Relief Corp of Winterset.
In her death she leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, William Paullin, and five children, Luella Orr, of Winterset; Elmer Paullin, of Des Moines; Edward H. Paullin and Mrs. Minnie McDonald, of Winterset; and B. A. Paullin, of Peru. There are twenty grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Paullin was taken sick about three weeks ago, and though she did not suffer pain, through the days of extreme heat she constantly grew weaker. On Thursday night, August 9, 1934, she succumbed to death, passing quietly and peaceably from the flesh. Her husband and children were with her. She was aged 80 years, 5 months and 14 days.
- "Winterset (Iowa) Madisonian", Thursday, 16 Aug 1934.
[2506] Gundrada and William may have been initially buried in the Chapter House at Lewes in East Sussex, but her remains, and those of William de Warenne, were discovered in 1845 when a railway line was built through the ruins of the priory she and William had founded, and were reinterred in a chapel at St John the Baptist parish church, Southover, Lewes. Her brother was the Flemish Earl of Chester {see "History and Genealogy of the Warren Family," Thomas Warren (1902); "Gundrada de Warenne," Edmond Chester Waters, Hammersmith, England, 10/1884; "William the Conqueror: The Norman Impact Upon England," David C. Douglas, Eyre & Spottiswoode, London, 1966, p. 267: "...a certain Gerbod, who was probably advocatus of the abbey of Saint-Bertin. Described as `Flandrensis' (of Flanders), he was apparently the son of another advocatus of the same name, and in 1070 he was entrusted with the earldom of Chester....his sister, Gundrada, married William de Warenne." William and Gundrada also had Rainald or Reginald, and Edith.} M.J.Crispin {"Fallaise Roll": 1938, p.52,} believes that Gundrada is daughter of Queen Matilda, citing a charter of William de Warenne to the Lewes priory in which he states that his donations, among others, were for Queen Matilda, the mother of his wife. "It is conjectured that Gundreda [sic] and Gherbod the Fleming, created earl of Chester, her brother, were the children of Queen Matilda by a former marriage, probably clandestine, and therefore not reported by the historians of the day." Crispin believes that the marriage to Gundrada is one reason William Rufus was so generous in bestowing estates on William de Warenne. This line of reasoning is opposed by David C. Douglas in his biography of William the Conqueror (see Appendix). Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundred,_Countess_of_Surrey.

[61096] "The Ellsworth American {Ellsworth, Maine]," 22 December 2025: "Everard D. Hall, age 81, of Milbridge passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2025, with his family by his side. Everard was born Dec. 1, 1944, in Cherryfield, to Alvin J. Hall Sr. and Marjorie M. (Grant) Hall. He was best known as The Gravedigger. Everard made his living digging graves by hand, with shovels and pickaxes the tools of his trade. He took great pride in his work, paying attention to every detail as everything needed to be perfect. He dug just under 3,000 graves throughout his career."

[6] One account reports that Samuel's family resided at Washington Bottom near Perryopolis, Fayette Co., PA until about 1817 when they moved to Ohio. For Fayette Co. early history see R. Eugene Harper, "The Transformation of Western Pennsylvania, 1770-1800" (Pgh.: U. of Pgh.Press, 1991). Samuel is on the 1825 tax list in Wayne Co. A Samuel Jewell was a Trustee of East Union Twp., Wayne Co., OH in 1856 according to Ben Douglass' "History of Wayne Co., Ohio" (p. 614).

She married William Leavitt on 9 July 1856. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. She lived in Athens, Somerset, Maine, United States for about 10 years."

[24449] Tim Powys-Lybbe at http://www.freewebz.com/powys/pl_tree/ps31/ps31_115.htm reports: "2nd s. Inherited his brother's estate as his line died out completely" and states Henry is son of Sir John Savile and Izabel Eland. He also reports "He has 6 generations before him in the Yorks Visitation of 1563-4, with what veracity I know not."
