[1115] The primary reference for Samuel and his family is "Hinckleys of Maine," Marlene Alma Hinckley Groves (Rockland, ME: privately printed by the Penobsot Press, 1993). Samuel and his wife came from Hawkhurst, Co. Kent, England on the Ship Hercules in March, 1635; Samuel married secondly Bridget Bodfish. He settled at Scituate, MA where he was admitted a freeman 7 February 1637, and moved to West Barnstable where he was a juror and town officer. There were other children who died in infancy. See "The Hinckleys of Truro," by Shebnah Rick. Samuel was "gentry" and was a "yeoman" and "Elder" in MA. The Rev'd Fr. Goode (see note for Robert, Samuel's father) wrote: "Samuel and Sarah were married at Hawkhurst. Samuel had bought a farm in Tenterden with money inherited fro his father, the sale of which probably financed the move to America." Basic information on the family is in "The Great Migration...1634-1635" (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2003), Vol. 3, pp. 331-335, and Vol. 2, p. 194. For further information on this family, see "History of Scituate, Massachusetts," Samuel Deane (Boston: James Loring, 1831), pp. 284-285. Cf. "Guide to the Early Settlers of America," Henry Wittemore (Baltimore: Genealogical Pub. Co., 1967), p. 257, and "Plymouth Colony: Its History and People, 1620-1691)," Eugene Aubrey Stratton (Ancestry Publishing, Provo, UT, 1986), p. 304.

[55732] Vernon's obituary: "Vernon Carlton Hunt, 85, devoted father, husband, brother and grandfather, died peacefully at home on December 23, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born June 2, 1938, in Stacyville, the son of Charles and Letha (Shaw) Hunt. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1957. Vernon was a US Army veteran and worked as a reserve officer for Bucksport Police Department in the early 1960s. He began his career as a well-respected insurance agent in the mid 1970s. When he retired, he took up his woodworking hobby and made his children and family numerous handmade gifts. Also during retirement, he worked part-time for Affiliated Healthcare and Uniship. He loved ministering to people in song. He spent many years with his guitar singing gospel songs that he loved so much, and leading worship service in church. God was the head of his household and Vern led his children by example. Vernon enjoyed his many years of volunteer work for the Salvation Army and being outdoors, taking family trips, and telling jokes and old stories to anyone who would listen! He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Joann Hunt of St. Petersburg, FL; one son, Scott Hunt and wife Michelle of Bucksport; three daughters, Pamela Carter and husband, Melvin of Bucksport, Paulette Saunders and husband, Rusty of Bucksport and Susan Carson and husband, Jon of Orrington; five grandchildren, Jayson Grindle, Alex Chaffee, Emily Hunt, Katelin Saunders and Abigail Hunt; three stepchildren, Laurie and Darrell Ross of Hermon, Tammy Treadwell and Jason Clark of Florida, Dawn and Daniel Gagnon of Alaska; many step-grand and great grandchildren; one brother, Paul Hunt and his wife, Mary, of Bucksport, two sisters, Sandra Ackley and husband, Richard, of Kissimmee, FL, Sherry Snyder and husband, Henry, of North Conway, NH, and a special friend of many years, Lance Bird of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Justine Jeskey; brother, Walter Hunt; an infant twin sister and another infant sister; and his loving wife of 44 years, Janice (Powers) Hunt."
[59301] Flora is said to be daughter of Moses Adams Jellison (1807-1875) & Clarinda R. Giles (1820-1892).
