[9570] Solomon received the "Briner farm" (located southwest of Loysville on a bend of Sherman's Creek), first warranted by James Thorn in 1763 (with a note attached stating that payment would commence March, 1754, indicating that the land had been occupied before the Treaty of Albany legally opened settlement of this area). He was a member of the Reformed Church at Loysville. He was born and resided on the farm where he died. "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania], 12 October 1892," p. 3: "Solomon Briner, one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of the Western part of Perry county, died at his home in Tyrone township, two miles southwest of Loysville, at six o'clock on Saturday morning. His death was the result of a wetting he got about a month ago. He had been out in the rain and on coming home did not put on dry clothing. As a result he took a heavy cold, which developed into typhoid malaria. For two weeks prior to his death he was confined to his bed. He was conscious to the last and died without a struggle. Solomon Briner was a son of George Briner, deceased, who moved to this county early in the century from one of the lower counties. He was born and lived all his life on the farm where he died. He was married to Miss Annie Kiner, sister of George Kiner, of Tyrone township, who with four children Elmer E., Newton J., Edward and Maggie survive him. He was a second cousin of George S. Briner, Esq., of Jackson township, and of Daniel Briner of this borough. Mr. Briner was a man of prominence in the community where he resided, being probably the wealthiest citizen of the county. He was a man of generous impulses, kind and considerate to the needy and to those with whom he had business transactions. His place cannot be filled in the hearts of those who knew him. Funeral services were conducted in the church at Loysville on Monday forenoon, Revs. Scott and House officiating. The funeral was largely attended. The remains were interred in the new cemetery near Loysville. He was aged 71 years, 8 months and 4 days."
