[41569] "Elizabethville Echo [Elizabethville, PA], 18 April 1929," p. 1: "Mr. Isaiah T. Buffington, one of this town's most prominent residents, passed away at his home early Friday evening at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 22 days, after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Buffington had been in fair health during the past winter and on Thursday had supervised work in his small orchard east of town. Exertion is believed to have brought on a heart attack later that day. He succumbed to the second attack the following evening. Mr. Buffington had been a resident of this community for about sixty years. He was born in Upper Paxton Township a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Buffington and when quite young his parents removed to Mifflin Township and later to Washington Township, where Mr. Buffington received his early education. Mr. Buffington's father was a cabinet maker and undertaker. At the age of ten years Mr. Buffington went out among neighbors to work on the farm, which work he pursued for about five years after which he took up cabinet making, carpentering and house contracting work. Mr. Buffington entered business for himself in 1876 as an undertaker, cabinet maker and contractor and he continued in this manner until 1888. Mr. Buffington started his business in a very small room and made additions as his business increased. Mr. Buffington entered into a partnership with C. W. Enders in 1888 when they formed the firm of Buffington and Enders and established the planing mill where they not only furnished lumber for home and industrial building purposes but manufactured furniture also. This partnership was dissolved after many years when Mr. Buffington became the sole owner of the planing mill. After conducting this business very successfully Mr. Buffington sold the plant to the present owners, the Williams Valley Lumber and Construction Company and retired from active business. During his life time Mr. Buffington had been identified with many civic activities. As a resident of Washington Township he served at one time on the Board of School Directors. He became the first Chief Burgess of Elizabethville upon its change to borough government. He had also been President of the Enterprise Hosiery Mill and was present when the Maple Grove Cemetery Association was organized. He served in the capacity of President from its organization to the time of his death. Mr. Buffington became a director of the First National Bank of town when it was chartered in 1900. He succeeded John A. Komberger as President of the Board of Directors upon the former's death in 1916, and Mr. Buffington served in this capacity until his death; his son Lewis being the cashier of the same institution. Mr. Buffington was a member of Trinity United Brethren Church and for many years had been Superintendent of the Sunday School, and was President of the Church Board of Trustees for many years. He was also affiliated with Syrian Lodge of Odd Fellows, town. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kemmerer September 1, 1872, who with the four sons and one daughter survive: William E., Washington, D. C; Ray K., George F. and Lewis C. Buffington of this place and Miss Nellie Buffington, at home. Three sisters and one brother; Mrs. Mary Tschopp, Elizabethville; Mrs. Charles B. Potter, Mifflin, Pa, and Miss Kate Buffington of Elizabethville and B. Franklin Buffington of town; and five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held from the residence Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. John A. Keiper, pastor of the United Brethren Church of Tower City and Rev. I. W. Funk, pastor of Trinity United Brethren Church officiated. Interment was made on the family plot in Maple Grove Cemetery. . . "
