[5010] Brusse was Earl of Caithness and Sunderland. {-Carr P. Collins, "Royal Ancestors of Magna Charta Barons" (Dallas, 1959), p.226, gives his descent to Robert I, King of Scotland 1306-29.} The name is from the town of Bruis in France. Brusse was Privy Councillor to King Olaus the Holy, according to "The Bruce Journal," 1:4, p. 47. http://www.geocities.com/janet_ariciu/theBrucefamily.html offers: "Brusse, Earl of Caithness and Sunderland, died in 1031 A.D. He married Ostrida of Gothland, and they had Rognvald (died in 1046 A.D.) was the General in the Army of King of Olaf in Norway. Through his second wife, Felicia of Normandy, he HAD a son, Brusi, who as far as can be found was the first to be called "Robert de Brusse". Brusi (Robert de Brusse) married Emma of Brittany, circa 1020 A.D. in Normandy."
