Ward's Regiment of the Massachusetts Militia during the War for Independence, enlisting from Middlebury, MA; he received a pension on account of this service, and the pension application 20 April 1818 indicates that he then resided at Tilden's Plantation (now Great Pond), Union River, Penobscot Co., Maine. {See Gleason Leonard Archer, "Ancestors and descendants of Joshua Williams, a Mayflower descendant and pioneer" (Boston: Wright & Potter Print. F. 38470; Bridgewater, MA VR 408:V.II; Abington VR 2, 49, 243 - Births p. 47.} His military service is also recorded in "Soldiers, Sailors and Patriots of the Revolutionary War - Maine," Carleton E.
