He was born in Orland March 21, 1888, the son of John and Carrie (Hutchins) Bowden. He lived in the Cutler area most of his life and was a fisherman. He is survived by one son, Carlton L. of Bethany, Conn; one daughter, Arlene Dennison of Cutler; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7, at the Gardner Funeral Home, Machias, with the Rev. Steven Zarecki officiating. Burial will follow in New Cutler Cemetery, Cutler."

Joe A. Chilton of Ormond Beach, FL (jchilton@cfl.rr.com) gives in GenServ her marriage date as 25 Jan 1695, and provides children Henry and Thomas, shown here (this information is not verified). Patricia Trollinger (ottawahillpt@neok.com) commented via email 18 Nov 2002: "I have been researching not only my Scruggs family but all Scruggs in general for over 40 years. In all of this time, I have never found proof that Henry and Anne Grose Scruggs were the parents of the children accredited to them. My own line goes back to Henry Scruggs who married a lady named Elizabeth. Their youngest son, Julius, is my 4th great grandfather. Naturally, I have made every effort to establish the ancestry of Henry, the supposed son of Henry and Anne Grose. So, we are all up against the same stone wall. At this point, we do not even know who our emigrant ancestor was. We have engaged an English genealogist to solve the problem for us. There are many possibilities due to the different spelling of Scruggs in the early years. (Patricia Piper's) ancestry to Richard and Martha Scruggs is not in question. However, I am not sure that her last name was Drury. I am wondering if Joe A. Chilton is a cousin of mine. Julius Scruggs grandson, James, had a daughter, Elizabeth Keith Scruggs, who married William Chilton and later moved to Tarrant Co., TX." - Patricia Scruggs Trolinger [(Mrs. Donald Cecil), Ottawa Hill, 61300 East 110 Road, Miami, OK 74354-4726 - (918) 542-5772].
